| My ladies lunch group today, almost WW3... |
|
The Kerrys vs the bushes. One of the woman (Pat) made the comment of Kerry can't be trusted, flip-flopper, and insisted on telling us to vote for bush, vessel of God. Another lady(Mary) said, we're not here to talk about politics. Politics divides friendships and we're not here for that. We all felt uncomfortable. We meet once a month as friends. We mostly talk about our pains and aches.
We know who the democrats are and who the republicans are. Again Pat challenged us into a political debate by trashing Kerry. Another lady, (Debby) said to Pat, I support Kerry and I'll talk politics with you using facts. Pat insisted that Kerry shamed this nation..etc. She really had all the dirty Ads memorized.
Another lady (Heidi) who is a large German woman and takes shit from no one and has the language to match, jumped up at let Pat have it. Heidi's mouth went off like a machine gun. She laid out bush's AWOL, Laura killing her boyfriend, bush's war for oil, cheney war profiteer, bush reading a goat book while Americans jumped off the WTC burning building. Etc. Etc. Etc. We couldn't get Heidi to sit down and shut up. Our republican friends ran off with big mouth Pat and the rest of us, proud democrats, gathered around Heidi. We usually have a glass of wine with lunch but after such a scene, we ordered shots of Southern Comfort.

I had a similar experience with a conservative friend. She knew I was more interested in preserving our friendship than talking politics, and I NEVER brought it up, but she kept pushing it. I had to cut her loose--not so much because of her ideas, but because she was so obviously trying to start an argument all the time.

And I love Heidi!!
Funny, this has sort of happened to me too in that the Dems play by the rules when politics aren't an appropriate discussion, but the repubs just are so damn confidence that they know EVERYTHING that they refuse to honor the rules. Once they do that--it's no holds barred and a lot of us "go Heidi" on them!
Great story :)

Stupid man at a cafe (actually was talking about how squirrels were good eating and I'm not kidding!) ... I'll spare you the details but basically he had the swiftboat thing memorized and he was a veteran himself. I'll tell ya, even though he was an old guy I had about had it and I let him have it. He left. I people around me smiled and then we got into a discussion about how ignorant people like that are and how they vote against their best interests. One guy was involved with MoveOn, so at least we outnumbered the dumb old f@#$. I have no tolerance left for these asshats who have run this country into the ground and I will NOT shut up anymore! The rightwing has bullied us for years and they had better watch out!

I ran into some repuke lemmings at a football watching get-together last Sunday. I swear I was only there 5 minutes when the first "flip-flop" remark came out. This is one of their lemming tactics. It sure would be nice if they could think for themselves but it goes against their Stepford mentality I guess.

to prevent you from going to jail. I don't know how to argue. I kick ass first. I did it only once in my life time and it was enough to learn that I can't argue on anything that's emotional. Heidi also understands that I'm more frutrated than any of them because my hub is a republican, and his family are real religious 'bush sent by god' crazies. I don't want them in my house because I know I will kill one of them.
Sad about big mouth Pat is that she's been homeless. Her husband ran off with some younger woman and all of us as friends, have done for her. Heidi said, don't ever ask me to do anything for Pat. She can get her ass to the White House and ask bush for a handout.
I don't think we'll be meeting for a long time. I'm glad you enjoyed it but what have we come to? The division is so shocking.

|
The Republicans use their psy-ops techniques to get people all wound up about emotional hot-button issues until they're so angry they can't think straight.
As Clinton said at the DNC, the Republicans have to do this because if people knew what the Republicans were really doing, most people would never vote for them.

I print out articles every day in order to support my positions, and am totally armed with facts. Republicans can never back up anything they say, because everything they believe is some rhetorical talking point straight out of RNC headquarters.
I wish I had video recordings of some of these encounters, because these republicans are so outright foolish it is hilarious.

that's why the repuke leaders tell them to stick to repeating the same simple phrases. They know they can remember to say "flip-flopper" and not much else. I'm sure they did some studies to see which phrases they were capable of remembering and this was the one that came out on top.
If you want to have some fun, just go to a social gathering with your Dem. friends wearing a Kerry button and place bets beforehand on how many times you will hear the phrase "flip-flopper." Pavlov would be proud.

I keep everything handy in a folder in case I need to look something up. But since I've learned so much reading DU every day, it usually only takes a minute or two of throwing the facts back at them for them to either shut up or walk off in a huff. They just can't back up any of their right wing talking points. Stupid wingnuts.

| 14. Imagine how I felt on Wednesday night, as I stayed in my |
|
sister's inland home, waiting to see if Ivan would strike Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama or Florida. They continued their pro-* comments, my 10 year old niece said she was voting for Kerry, they trashed Dan Rather and applauded Faux & CNN for getting at the truth.
All along, I am trying to be patient and not say a word, I didn't feel like being tossed out into the wind gusts that blew in.
I prayed all night long that God would give me strength to not say a word and that the storm would not destroy my home.
Fortunately for me (not so fortunate for Alabama and Florida), the worst part of the storm missed Mississippi. My power was turned on last night and I was able to bath in my tub, sleep in my bed and escape my freeper sister and her hubby, who believe that the lack of prayer in schools has caused all the problems in our society.
Yeah, * the uniter - I have never felt so far removed from my family in my life.

I have lived 63 years and remember Roosevelt and Truman - and I have NEVER seen our countr so torn and divided and hateful (and HATED) as it is today under the false "residency" of Bush. He has torn us asunder and it will take Kerry - and then Hillary - years to mend the fences he has torn down with is arrogance and stupidity. It even gets into our living rooms and..well.. obviously, even our hen parties!

The most important thing we can do is rebut them with FACTS and not let them get away with character assassination.
I was watching a tape of "The Daily Show" made during the RNC, and the footage they showed of the convention just brought home how much the whole event was merely an orgy of hatred for John Kerry. They showed some of those dolts who were wearing the purple heart bandages, and I think it was Lewis Black who said such people deserved the Congessional Medal of Idiot.

Your lady Pat was full of disinformation and she was ready to spread it with a trowel, if Heidi had let her. I refuse to shut up anymore myself. If a Republican can not sit down and have a civil discussion, laying out the facts with me, then I have no use for them anymore.
Yes, Bushler certainly has been a uniter, NOT. But, then the credo of all fascists since the day Julius Caesar accepted the dictatorship of Rome has been, "divide and conquer". Our own Ceasar and his court know how to do this very well. We can no longer not discuss politics in a futile effort to get along.
