| How exactly does funding terrorism with drugs work? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 07:12 PM by ck4829
I see several problems with this theory.
1. If the drug-dealers/Terrorists are Muslims, there is a big problem here. My experiences with Muslims and Islam tells me that there is to be no involvement with drugs whatsoever. Knowing a Muslim girl myself, she told me, "No Drugs, No Drinking". She was a Secular Progressive Muslim, if she didn't do drugs or drinking, why would Fundamentalist Fanatics even consider dealing the stuff?
2. Opium supposedly funds terrorism. Why do we call the Taliban a terrorist regime if it stopped Opium production?
Considering all of this, the theory that Pat Robertson funds Al Qaeda with Blood Diamonds seems a lot more logical than this.

| 2. fundies believe the ends justify the means |
|
it lets them ignore even their own convictions with impunity.
they sell drugs, they use money to buy materials, weapons and to fund terrorist acts.
Despite the utter phoniness of the bushgang's "war" on "terror," there is actual terrorism in the world.
terrorists have other sources of funding as well--covert CIA funds for one.
one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

| 3. south american terrorists are sometimes |
|
associated with terrorists like shining path.
opium is a very popular crop in afganistan. they are usually under the control of local warlords.
the taliban was no more able to control all of afganistan than we are. and just like the pakistani government cannot control the tribal regions along its western border.

| 8. Saudi Arabia recently beheaded.. |
|
three Security personnel for dealing in hasheesh.
The Taliban were paid $43Million to sqaush poppy growing by Colin Powell in 2000. Not absolutely sure of the date. Opium is turned into heroin, isn't it. I am not educated in these matters.
Yet the Afghan War Lords are said to be profiting from poppy growth in Afghanistan. Are these War Lords not Muslims as are the growers, as well?

| 4. It's unfair to lump all the terrorist groups together. |
|

Because all of them have different ideas, and to some extent different goals. Plus not all of them are religous based.

There are a variety of terrorist groups. Their political and religious ideas and goals are all very different. But, I think more people should be puzzled when Fanatic Fundamentalist Muslims who supposedly want Sharia law worldwide would deal with drugs.

| 5. The first time I heard "war on drugs" |
|
I laughed-out-loud and said that the U.S. government would have to arrest itself.
The drug trade has long been the vehicle of clandestine operations in various countries. Some not so hidden. Opium production in Afghanistan is booming.
The language about who is a terrorist is (purposefully) muddled. The Taliban and Al Qaeda and bin Laden are not necessarily the same, but have been intertwined.
And yes, Pat Robertson and Ollie North are also players.

| 6. THAT is why drugs should be legallized |
|
Then the only illegal trade commodity will be weapons... which are clearly criminal. Amazing how drugs become more dangerous than guns when gun-manufacturers run the media.
In principal, to buy illegal guns, you need cash or equivalent commodity. As some drugs are vastly more valuable than cash per weight, they are an ideal barter-commodity to fund otherwise unaffordable war.
The blinking irony, that the weapons are all made by us or other "responsible" government industries, is just overlooked... so that drugs are the problem.... when in fact, they are the solution.
End drugs prohibition, and discover that the remaining illegal professions are sex-slaves, slavery and weapons trafficing... really evil shit.. .and the whole world can unite against this form of terrorism... just that arming terrorists is the american way, and given that bush and his terrorists feel it is a right to arm and committ mass murder and terrorism, that leaves poor cocoa farmers as the outlet for the public emnity their arms proliferation arouses.
The theory is crap, a republican ruse to create an eternal war and big profits in arms. Were the drugs legal, the whole trafficing thing would be bunk overnight, and we could deal on pragmatic terms with real evil... instead, the drugs trade is as normal as walmart, and is a distraction for warmongers whilst they committ war crimes.
Needless to say, AWOL and his cowardly scum in the congress are the root terrorists... creating war and strife for profit whilst blaming someone else.

Shocking, I know. But, then again, Islam forbids murder as well. That hasn't exactly stopped the nutbags.
