Strange..Ga has been under State of Emergency and new one today wil

cover the entire State until further notice. it starts off under Executive Order on Sept. 1, the State was put under a State of Emergency but today Purdue signed a Statewide national emergency for Ivan extending until the 20th but then it says until further notice.
I hope the Copy and paste worked on the executive order PDF....
Why would we have been under at State of Emergency since the 1st of September?

Hurricane Charlie was anticipated. I'm hoping Ivan fizzles out over LA. (Lower Alabama.) Really glad NOLA wasn't hit, hope there aren't too many fatalities, have heard two were killed. Now they're saying four.

Having visited Sea Island over the years, I'm saddened by my own ignorance as to what's been going on there. I had no idea about this State of Emergency thing. It makes sense for each isolated weather incident, but to declare one for a summit, much less have an unbroken State of Emergency since June (since May 24 for some counties according to AJC) is bizarre.

CORRECTION, 8/31/04, page A/2: A Metro section story Thursday about an executive order signed by Gov. Sonny Perdue incorrectly reported that Perdue had declared a state of emergency in Georgia. The story should have said that the executive order allows for a unified public safety command structure in the event a state of emergency is declared. :eyes:

Seriously though, all fellow Georgians and neighbors in nearby states - take precautions, and stay safe until Ivan passes.

"Basically, the governor signed this new executive order to capitalize on and to formalize the success of the organizational command structure used during G-8," Ray said.

The state of emergency that went into effect May 24 covered six coastal Georgia counties near the June 8-10 meeting of the leaders of France, Russia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Japan, Canada and the two top representatives of the European Union. Before this year, the last time a Georgia governor used such an order was during the 1996 Olympics.

Perdue said in May that he signed the proclamation to avoid "potential danger to the persons and property of this state from unlawful assemblages, threats of violence and otherwise."

Like the original order, its expansion creates a unified public safety command.

That puts the Georgia Army National Guard, state law enforcement and public health under one office and reduces the time for state agencies to respond after a terrorist strike, Ray said.

I don't think Jeb ever UNdeclared it after Charley. It sounds very scary to me that two states are under emergency.

I can understand a temporary thing, but it feels strange to still have it.
