| ABC News Now: Local Ivan Coverage |
|
If you have loved-ones in the path of the storm, ABC News Now, the new ABC All-News Channel is running non-stop coverage from their affiliates in Pensacola and Panama City (that's who they're showing right now). When Francis hit, they did the same thing with their Miami & West Palm stations.
These stations are giving you the same local information and coverage those in the most affected areas are. Even better, they don't have obnoxious reporters attempted to prove their "stones" by playing Dan Rather on the lamppost...these people's lives and families are in peril and the reports show the care and detail that only local coverage can do.
It's also encouraging to hear people calling in, while the winds are raging at 60 to 80 MPH out their own doors, asking if there are others in the area who need help, or are out checking up on others.
For those who are worried about family and friends in that part of the world, tuning in can give you a bit of peace of mind...or for news & weather junkies, this is as close to experiencing the storm without having to pull tree branches off our front lawn.
I know the network is available on various cable systems around the country, but also if you have a new digital TV, it may be available on one of the "sub-channels" of your local ABC affiliate. Here in Chicago, the network is on 24/7 on Concast Digital Cable Ch. 217, but also on WLS-TV's Digital Channel 7...that you should be able to get on any ATSC TV. It's a refreshing change from the non-stop propoganda and pontificating of the other channels.
Cheers!
