| Bush was defined a long time ago |
|
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Naw, not that purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect idiot. Only our hero flip-flops!
I love that quote. I'm just curious about your coming up with this. Is this one you've known about a long time or you're just now studying Emerson. Or???
I'm envious. But thanks. :bounce:

| 3. Known it for a long while in an abbreviated form |

Usually you just see this rump version: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"
I saw this on a website the other day (the long version) and copy/pasted it into Notepad. Sorry, but I didn't copy the link. After his UN "stay the course" speech yesterday it seemed appropriate.

| 4. My family had another saying |

"Stubbornness is a sign of stupidity." I always thought it was sort of simple-minded, but I see in Bush it's true relevance.

| 2. Wow by being stubborn you actually contradict yourself! |
|
I have never thought of that before. If you are holding the exact thought tomorrow as today you are not "staying put" in thought! In fact as the world moves by, you are in effect moving!

| 5. This whole "flip-flop" invective |
|
has so long since had me shaking my head in disbelief. :freak: Boutros-Ghali once said, as Poobah at the U.N., Only stupid people don't change their minds. I have ALWAYS reserved my right to change my mind when presented with new information requiring consideration. People so resist change, the ONLY constant in our time on this planet.
