Mark Latham has attempted to give voters a fresh reason to vote for him at the Labor Party's official campaign launch in Brisbane.
Introducing a sense of urgency, Mr Latham told 5,000 of the party faithful that it is now or never.
"This message comes from the heart, the big heart of the Australian people themselves," he said.
"It's from the people, and all that I've learned about their concerns, their needs and their aspirations for the future.
"But I see a real urgency in this campaign - the urgent need to change now."
Mr Latham warns against waiting another term for a fresh government.

At least 15 per cent of the electorate is undecided, and Labor needs to particularly win over voters in 13 marginal seats.
Mr Latham's focus today was those over the age of 75, who would - under Labor - get free hospital care.
"Mr Howard is waging war against Medicare, I want to build a fortress around it," Mr Latham said.
"In particular, we must do more for our senior citizens.
"I can't stomach a system where elderly Australians are left on hospital waiting lists for long periods of time."
He also says pensions will be indexed quarterly and there would be a new payment for grandparents.
The proposals have been welcomed by both pensioners and health care groups.
Man I hope this is still around in 50 years.
