| CBS cancels broadcast on Bush's use of forged Iraqi WMD documents.. |
|
CBS= Cowards Bootlickers Subservients
from www.wsws.org
In a development that highlights the cowardice and subservience of the US media--and suggests there is far more to the so-called "memogate" affair at CBS News than has so far been made public--the network confirmed September 27 that it had canceled a planned "60 Minutes" broadcast exposing the use of forged documents by the Bush administration in the run-up to the Iraqi war.
<snip>
CBS News President Andrew Heyward eventually declared that broadcasting the "60 Minutes" program on Iraq's non-existent WMD would be "inappropriate" so close to the election, since it would give the appearance that the network was seeking to influence the vote. This rationale, of course, ignores the fact that NOT broadcasting the program ALSO influences the vote, and amounts to a whitewash of the Bush administrations lies.
Newsweek, citing CBS sources, said the network feared it would become a "laughingstock" if it broadcast a program criticizing the Bush White House for the use of forged documents so soon after CBS itself fell victim to forged documents.
This account suggests another explanation for the whole affair: it raises more forcefully the likelihood that the bogus memos on Bush's National Guard service were supplied to CBS by dirty tricks operatives of the Republican Party, for the purpose of embarrassing the network and blowing up it's planned exposure of the WMD fabrications.

| 3. Great article- why shouldn't White House be discredited too over forgery |
|
Ironic claim that CBS would be made a laughingstock over the use of 'forged documents'. Seems to me that it would be only fair that if CBS can be discredited and given such a black eye for inadvertently using allegedly forged documents to support a basically true story of 30 years ago, the White House should be subject to at least as much criticism for deliberately using documents proven to be forged, to bolster a false case to get us into a very tragic and costly war.

have applied the hammerlock to CBS. It would sure be nice if someone at one of the major media outlets would tire of the pain these Fascist bastards are applying to them and scream at the top of their lungs just what's going on. Aint gonna happen though!

Please release your grip on the public airwaves. We the people would like those broadcast rights back, to be given to another entity that will use them and, yes, make a profit, but that will live up to its obligation to serve the public good.
Fox? ABC? NBC? You hand 'em over, too. Broadcasters henceforth will be dedicated to one business only, not crossover subsidiary mouthpieces for shady unrelated corporate interests.

| 6. 35 children dead in Iraq today |
|
and we can't talk about the lies that took us there? Some free press. Maybe they'll replay the faked statue toppling instead so the viewers can pretend all is well in Iraq and the Iraqis just love us. Let's just keep pretending while children are being slaughtered because of our illegal war.
