into an apple-head doll before our eyes, I actually doubt it's because he knows he's a failure. I'd be somewhat surprised if he's worried about losing the debate. He probably doesn't even realize he lost the last one.

Not only would this offend his sense of entitlement, but there is actually research indicating that incompetent people don't realize they're incompetent, apparently due in part to poor "self-monitoring skills." A situation undoubtedly made worse in Bush's case by being insulated from reality by a cadre of ass-kissing handlers.

Regarding incompetent people:
