| "Everybody, do the propaganda!!" (American Idiot-Green Day) |
|
I can't believe I haven't listened to the lyrics of this song until this morning. First true punk song I've heard in a long time. Well, this was a shot in the arm, this morning!!! The fact that this album STARTED OUT ON the charts at #1 gives me hope.
"Don't wanna be an American idiot. Don't want a nation that under the new media. And can you hear the sound of hysteria? The subliminal mindfuck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Convincing them to walk you.
Well maybe I'm the fuckhead America. I'm not a part of a redneck agenda. Now everybody do the propaganda. And sing along in the age of paranoia.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Convincing them to walk you.
Don't wanna be an American idiot. Don't want a nation controlled by the media. Information nation of hysteria. It's going out to idiot America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. Convincing them to walk you."
And I had quit listening to new music after the deluge of pop princesses. Can't believe I almost missed this. Rock on, Green Day.

| 1. How many teenie-boppers, do you think, |
|
listen to this song all day, and screem for it on TRL yet don't know what the lyrics are actually talking about. This is a great song, Green Day::headbang:

| 2. Green Day Comes Through |
|
This entire album is stunning... It's punk, with social conscnence, thank-god, something that has been missing from all of the current spate of punk-posers, your Sum-41s et al. The music on this album is all over the place, interesting, melodic, complex, and of course, back to your three chord yelling.
The lyrics are thoughtful, challenging and pointed.
This is Green Day's best album, and perhaps the best album I have heard all year.

| 5. It's the first song I've heard in ages that |
|
makes me feel as though. . ."the kids are all right !"
I bummed the CD from my son and keep blasting it over the phone to friends. I also play it every time the media inspires deep rage in me. Then I wonder why I can't get it out of my head.
Very silly.
I'm gonna put it on my answering machine as we come closer to election day. How professional of me! Yes it is a line on which I receive business calls.
