| Much as dislike Tom Friedman, in one of his op-ed pieces he stumbled on to |
|
a piece of wisdom that I cannot dispute. He said that Bush went to war in Iraq because he could. This is plausible because the vast arsenal we have built up since the Second World War prompts us to seek military solutions to every problem. All one has to say is vital American interests are at stake and off we go to another war. Have you ever seen in any situation a vital American interest is not at stake? From Haiti to Tajikistan to the Arctic the entire world seems to be populated with vital American interests.
Sort of like if you are holding a hammer, every problem looks like a nail to you.

oh vital CORPORATE interests. The only reason this country seems to go to war is to protect corporate interests. That is why communist china is good but communist cuba is bad.

his credibility as a journalist. Anything he writes now is interwoven with his rationale to justify his naive mistake in thinking this war was the answer to the problems in the middle east

| 3. So long as the war is going our way, opportunists like T.F. will |

climb on the bandwagon, beating the war drums and coining terms like cakewalk. It is when things start going sour T.F. will find the nearest taxicab driver in Beijing or Bangkok to expound the wisdom of not going to war.
