| Kerry down... Revert to Howard Dean? |
|
Seriously, it seems that with Kerry going down, the logical impulse is to go back to continue the work started by and championed by Howard Dean... His campaign and DFA represent the most hope for the country, from where I'm standing... Thoughts?

Dean had the right idea with his strong rhetoric attacking the Rethugs. We'll need that to fight the Reichwingers till they are no more.

Maybe not for president but he's exactly what we need to fight the DLC establishment. And he's shown that he can pull it together when it's important (by supporting Kerry for president).

| 5. Dean is possessed of two very good ideas |
|
One, that we need a return to mobilizing our base rather than trying to steal from a wishy-washy middle that has been defined by the Republicans' terms. He is absolutely correct that the success of Bill Clinton had little or nothing to do with DLC "genius" on policy, but rather was effected by Clinton's skill as a politician.
Second, that we need to work constantly in an organized fashion to shift the debate back to where it plays to our strengths. Morals should be our ballpark, not the Republicans. We won't get it back by trying to beat them at their own game, but by creating our own and forcing it into the mainstream.

National Democrats need to learn the success secrets of Midwestern Democrats. My birth state, Illinois, was literally the "Land of Lincoln", aka land of Repukes, but is now a Democratic power in the Midwest. To break the Repuke grip on the Midwest and West, we need to choose a Midwestener, not a Southener as part of the Prez ticket.

We need someone who is amazingly charismatic and energetic and an inspiring and dynamic speaker. We need another JFK. People gut check first on surface and then integrate substance. If you can't ever get to charisma, it doesn't matter if you are the reincarnation of jeebus himself, they're not gonna vote for you if there's someone with more charisma in the race.
Isn't that about as shallow as it gets? But true.
Hey anthro majors - I think it's because in a smaller tribal community we evaluated genetic fitness in our leaders based on a number of physical and behavioral benchmarks in the absence of lengthy political discourse.

If Bush can get 3,000,000 more votes than Kerry after his first term, some serious work has to be done with the electorate before they will elect any of the tickets you mention.

And I'm still not very fond of him, though I was glad to see him be concillatory with Kerry and make a genuine effort to help him on the campaign trail. If I'd support any candidate it'd be Wesley Clark.
