New Zealand attracting disillusioned Americans.

Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 02:10 AM by Cascadian
Canada is not the only country where many Americans are looking into immigration. Many are looking at New Zealand as well... http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041106/wl_asia_afp/nzealand_us_vote_041106034443Who can blame them? Just look at this? John

3. I think the Lord of the Rings films had something to do with that.

Beautiful scenery. Several people I know said they wanted to move there after they saw that movie.

They've got all the different climate zones you can imagine. Unbelievable topography. A rail system that is great. International cities with a great multi-cultural feel. There's nothing wrong with New Zealand. Socialized medicine to boot! Also, right now, housing is very well priced in New Zealand as compared to the U.S. Even cheaper than Southern U.S. standards. Also, the benchmarks not to high about getting over there and getting a work visa. I'd probably choose it over Canada - no offense Canadians - plus they have an independent streak that has bucked the U.S. on more than one occassion, and unlike Canada, Bush couldn't send troops over the border tomorrow, if God suddenly told him to do it.

7. Just watch "The Lord of the Rings" -- it is almost a travelogue of NZ

DU had a poster here awhile back -- they went through a Conservative type coup and beat them back. Interesting posts.
That photo also looks like it could be from the Puget Sound or British Columbia -- Pacific North West region of North America.
I have friends with dual citizenships -- NZ & USA.
There is going to be a major brain drain as the US enters the dark ages -- and NZ could be a major beneficiary.

...we all came out of the theatre mentioning how "nice" NZ looked (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
I'd be seriously considering it myself, except a) I have three cats, and wouldn't want to put them through six months quarantine, and b) my wife really doesn't want to wind up so far from her family in the Americas.
