NY Times reports that torture is taking place at Gitmo

The US is torturing prisoners at Gitmo! Is this what our forefather's had in mind? This president has done more in 4 years to detroy our country than anyone in history!

If this doesn't piss you off and make you want to take to the streets what will? I mean really what does Dubya have to do to us, come into our homes and slap our wives, children or Mamas? When is enough , enough to get a rise out of the American people? This is insanity. 133 more killed in Iraq this month just so he can say elections are on schedule, prisoners tortured by the nation that is supposed to be the example for human rights. I am just so damn angry. What is it going to take to get us angry enough to get off our asses and hold massive protests against this regime? I am so frustrated at "our" leadership on these matters.
Where is the justified moral outrage, where is the voice of reason?
People in the Ukraine seem to value the freedoms they have much more than our lazy asses do. Maybe we have been blessed with freedom for so long we wont do anything until they take something away like TV. I bet that would get people pissed, but not the torture of probable innocent men at Gitmo, or the endless murders in Iraq. Jeese it sickens me that this GREAT nation has been reduced to the laughing stock of the free world. It hurts me that my Grandfathers gave pieces of their bodies for this bullshit.

When will enough be enough?

2. Seymour Hersch mentioned this a few months ago

A couple of months ago on the Diane Rehm show, Sy Hersch said when the word got out on Gitmo, it would make Abu Graib look tame. I haven't heard that he's written about this in the New Yorker, but I don't subscribe. Does anyone else know?

4. That's where my son is supposed to go

They promised him - you won't go to Iraq, you'll to to GB. I see him tonight for the first time in weeks. How do I change his mind? He has no idea what he's in for.

Tell your son many people thank him for his service. If he is just in his mindset is a follower now and that's the way they have made him. Maybe you could get him to read the NY Times article. I don't know. I really am sorry you and your family have been put in this position by this president. I'm sure your son's motives are noble and justified and I personally can't say anything against his wanting to serve the country. Just know you and your son are in my thoughts and prayers.

8. Someone in a leadership position and

Some organization with lots of money and clout. The reason I think this is because we don't have the luxury of the time it would take to start a grassroots organization to raise the cash, organize this , and get the word out. I really think it has to be an existing organization that has the organizational skills and the seed cash to get it moving. I keep writing letters to many progressive organizations to no avail. I'm getting very discouraged.

9. Anyone who is surprised has had their head in the sand

"Torture" was discussed as such from the beginnings of the prison. Talk radio had long discussions on whether we could all agree that torture was ok now. There was so much crap and then....secrecy. The few who were released and would speak talked of beatings, deprivation, humiliation, hopelessness, a life you would not wish on a dog.
Gauntanamo has counterparts on Diego Garcia, a US run prison that officially doesn't exist, on military vessels and bases...who knows where else, holding tens of thousands. You don't round up and imprison people and hide them from every humanitarian organization there is just to give them three squares and a cozy bed to sleep in.

Thanks for the post. This issue has been eating at me for a long time. Every time it comes up, at least more people will know.
