I gather his lowness is floating a balloon where the average joe and joan will have to work 6 hours instead of 5 before they're entitled to a lunc 'idea', my friends, stems from the exemption that the movie industry has long enjoyed. When I was on the board of one of the Hollywood unions, this became one of the sticking points in the contract negotiatons.
In the industry, you work 6 hours - an hour more than the labor rules stipulate, by a special exemption granted by the state. If you are worked beyond the 6 hours, the employer accrues penalties. The Producers were trying to do away with these meal penalties. They were, of course, the ones who were creating them by not breaking the company on time. They did back down. I drew more ire when I pointed out that their complaints about overhead were equally invalid. Having worked above the line earlier, I also knew that they attributed $110 per week simply to cut my check. (They have a very amusing bookeeping system).
This is just another bullshit attack on the working stiff by an idiot Republican whose grasp exceeds his abilities.
If you're a Californian who cares - write or email General Groper and let him know you don't fancy this folly.
