I need it to reply to a nasty LTE in my local paper, attacking my assertion that the war in Iraq has harmed Iraqis more than it has helped them.

actually the number of reported civilian and military casualties from both sides of the Iran/Iraq war. It would be interesting to find out the number, I suspect it will be much lower than people expect. I know there was a failed coup attempt in 96 which resulted in an estimated few thousand deaths, mostly military and government personnel. Also the Shia and Kurdish uprising after GWI resulted in thousands dead but some of those thousands were actually government employees killed by the Shia and the Kurds. Reports suggest they strung up the government employees on bridges and fences, sound familar.
