| Palestinians understand DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS far better than bush does |
|
The Palestinians voted directly for a LEADER.
Not so with bush's insane plan for the Iraqis.
Under occupation by a foreign army, under martial law, during a raging war, (with unknown secret candidates in skewed ex-pat parties at unknown secret voting locations), 50% or less of Iraq's eligible voters get to vote for:
A temporary GROUP.
NOT a leader for Iraq. NOT a President for Iraq.
Just a group...
...who will then SELECT a GROUP to be called the Iraqi National Assembly...
(of which the Iraqi people will have no say whatsoever in who's picked)
...who will then write a new Constitution for Iraq and SELECT A GROUP of 3 people...
(of which the Iraqi people, now twice removed from the "group" they actually voted for, will have no say whatsoever in the new Constitution or in selecting the 3 people)
...who will SELECT a president and executive staff for Iraq. Next year.
(of which the Iraqi people, now three times removed from the "group" they actually vote for, will have no say whatsoever in their future President or executive staff, or in fact ANY of the Iraqi government)
The Brits tried this very same stunt during their first attempted invasion & occupation of Iraq.
Didn't work then.
Ain't gonna work now.

| 1. However, this does follow what was done in the United States. |
|
But then again, we wanted that.

| 10. No one in the USA voted for a President before we had a |
|
Constitution. First the Continental Congress met and designed the ill-fated Articles of Confederation, subsequently revised to the U.S. Constitution, which gave us a President for whom to vote!

| 3. Again...MY solution is |
|
for the U.S. to get the hell out of Iraq right now...no matter HOW it looks and let the Iraqi people try to pull their country back together again. After our invasion and occupation, they will probably be far more willing to try to work together to form some type of workable government.
And so the hell what if it IS another dictatorship. If that is what they want, that is their choice.
Who the hell died and made us God?

| 4. I agree with your solution...you do mean to include the US paying total |
|
reparations too, right?
And apologizing to the people of Iraq and the world for the supreme crime war of aggression, as well as all the many war crimes committed by us in Iraq?
Yeah, not gonna happen, America doesn't have that kind of INTEGRITY AND COURAGE.
But as long as we're dealing with the fairy tale that bush plans to ever pull out of Iraq ($1.8 BILLION to build largest US embassy int he world...in Iraq) I figure may as well pretend we DO have that kind of INTEGRITY & COURAGE.

| 8. Lynn...reparations and an apology would be |
|
icing on the cake...but for now, I would settle for just GETING THE HELL OUT! I think that some of the countries that Bush has insulted might step in to help with at least SOME of the re-building that Halliburton would be forced to leave (esp. since they ain't doing it anyway).
Maybe if we left, they could conrol their own oil sales and have the money to rebuild their own country.
But you are right...ain't no way that BushCo and his supporters are going to let THAT happen.

| 9. There's a few countries (our FORMER allies) who said they would |
|
send troops to Iraq under their own coalition or UN flag, but NOT under the US no way no how. Going under the UN is probably not a good idea anymore, thanks to bush's tying the UN to the occupiers in Iraqis' minds.
Sigh. The little man just screws up everything.
Yep, getting the hell out is my #1 priority; aside from my not wanting more troops to die/be wounded (after all, my hubby is a soldier, as is my nephew currently in Iraq), I don't want more Iraqis to die/be wounded by our hands, and every day we stay we increase the hatred of the world towards us. Which makes all of us less safe.
But my main reason I want us out NOW is because I believe after all we have done to the people of Iraq the past 30+ years, we OWE IT to them to FOR ONCE do what THEY WANT us to do; and what the majority of Iraqis keep saying they want us to do is get the hell out of their country and leave them alone.

I would actually think that this may be a better idea, culturally the tribal system prevailent in this part of the world would intersect nicely with a parlimatarian system of democracy, wherein the people vote for members of the parliament, which then provides the cabinet and leader. I actually think that allowing the locals to allow their own customs etc to blend with the elections could make it easier to work.

| 7. Too bad bushCartel didn't bother consulting the IRAQIS about it, huh. |
|
Doesn't matter anyways; this "election" is a farce of the first order.
And in about 2-3 weeks from now, that will be widely acknowledged.
Just like the "WMD" and the "greet us with flowers and choccie" and bush's "mission accomplished" and "the capture of Saddam will end the insurgency" and last year's fake "hand-over of sovereignty"...
