| Poll question: Bitch about your Senators here! |
|
I love it! I post polls asking people to rate their governors and representatives and most people who reply just love to vent about their sorry officials. To that end, I have dropped all pretense for the senator poll, and open it up to rant-fest for all. Vent, fellow DUers! It's cathartic and builds solidarity.
My take: Jeff Bingaman gets a B. Pete Domenici...god, I hate that man. Sorry, Jeff, he brought NM's score down to a D.

Durbin gets a "B". Obama gets a D. He's voted with the Republicans three out of four floor votes and one out of one times in committee.
Obama today voted in favor of every Democratic Amendment to S.5 which was the class action lawsuit limitation law, yet voted in favor of the law. He sold out to corporations at the expense of common people. With this vote, Barack Obama has said that corporat bottom line profits are more important than the lives of common people.

Address to Supporters at Fanueil Hall - John Kerry (Boston, MA) November 3, 2004 - "Earlier today, I spoke to President Bush, and I offered him and Laura our congratulations on their victory. We had a good conversation and we talked about the danger of division in our country and the need – the desperate need – for unity, for finding the common ground, coming together. Today, I hope that we can begin the healing. In America it is vital that every vote count, and that every vote be counted. But the outcome should be decided by voters, not a protracted legal process."

I'm giving Bill Nelson a B-. He was good on the class action bill today but I'm saddened by his votes for Rice and Gonzales. (I do, however, understand how he must feel as the only statewide elected dem left in FL.)
Mel Martinez get's a D. He seems like your average Republican Senator and he hasn't made any "man on dog" type comments yet that would get him an F. Let's wait and see.

Chambliss awful - chicken-hawk repub replaced the honorable Max Cleland by questioning his patriotism and hasn't done anything useful since. He is now "working on" getting Bush to restore some of the big budget cuts that "reward" Georgia for its great Republican victory by cutting Lockheed, CDC, and on and on......
Isakson is new and the only positive thing one could say about him is that he is an elected Republican and he is NOT Zell Miller. I can't think of anything he could do to be as ignorant as Chambliss, but he hasn't been there long.

| 76. Nelson is going to oppose the Piratization of SS |
|
Not hard to oppose, since Shrub's proposal is so damn stupid.
This is what he wrote to me:
February 2, 2005
Thank you for contacting me to voice your opposition to President Bush's proposal to reform Social Security with private investment accounts.
I am willing to consider ideas for bolstering retirement security, but remain opposed to taking money out of Social Security and risking it in the stock market. Social Security has always provided a guaranteed source of income for retirees. It represents a promise made to workers and retirees alike that must be honored. Florida alone is home to 3.2 million Social Security beneficiaries, including retirees, survivors, and people with disabilities.
I am awaiting the details of the President's proposal, but expect that it will closely mirror the recommendations put forth in the 2001 President's Commission on Social Security. The main component of the President's initiative allows workers to take a portion of their payroll tax and invest it in the stock market. There is also discussion of changing the way benefits are calculated, linking them to prices rather than earnings. Either way, benefits for future generations will be reduced.
Social Security does face challenges, as it has in the past, but can be strengthened and maintained with sensible, bipartisan reforms. Plans that call for borrowing trillions of dollars and increasing the deficit or slashing benefits are not acceptable. I am examining other proposals that would increase tax breaks for retirement savings so they could supplement Social Security, not replace it.
I appreciate hearing from you. Feel free to contact me in the future.

It was easy when Phil Gramm was her colleague. Cornyn allows her to carry on the tradition.
Of course, she may throw it all away for a chance to be Governor.

as both are liberal and worthy. I live in Massachusetts, with John Kerry and Ted Kennedy.
On the other hand, I lived in California for 15 years, and have become unsettled over Diane Feinstein in the past couple of years. There is no problem with Barbara Boxer at all, but Feinstein presents a bit of a challenge.

|
Stabenow didn't do much at first, but now is in a better position to do more. But she replaced a total idiot (Spencer Abraham), so she gets credit in my book for that feat alone.
Levin is one of the best. He is smart, he serves the people of Michigan well, and he has always voiced his opposition to things that he doesn't agree with. He always wins overwhelmingly in a swing state. There are conservatives who vote for him, because he is trusted and honest.

George Allen,R F- (Go directly to retirement, do not pass Go, etc.)
John Warner,R C*
My MC is the dynamic Democrat and stream of consciousness speaker,
Jim Moran, D, - A+ Pisses people off every now and then but hes a solid Democrat and I helped with his campaign.
*Why a "C" for Warner. Way back when Ollie North tried to run for the Senate in Virginia, Warner was shocked and appalled. He campaigned AGAINST North, I repeat, AGAINST North. Guys going to heaven no matter whatever else he's done in his life. I saw Feinstein got a C- up thread. Well, Warner's got more integrity in his left foot than she'll ever have (thanks for the * tax cut, the Iraq war and Condi Diane).

They are both good Democrats. If you want me to bitch about current MD politicians my congressman Roscoe Bartlett is a total Bush Rethuglican. I protest the Bush SS b.s. and he wrote me a letter repeating the same damn lies that were in the SOTU.
Ehrlich, our governor, is a total ass who can't quit. His administration fires as many Dems as they can and tries to sell protected land and then has the nerve to bitch about the Baltimore Sun reporting on him and his cronies.

Congressman Dumb Young. Ted "Senator-for-life" Stevens. Lisa Murkowski, smarter than Dad but just as owned by the Repug Party and Big Oil as he is. Appointed by Dad "Frank the Bank" Murkowski to replace her, then elected because the "independent" Outside right wingnuts lied about former Gov. Tony Knowles over and over and over both on TV and with the thousands of automated phone calls they placed in the last couple of weeks before the election.
At least we could talk to Tony, even if he was waaaay to friendly with Big Oil for many of us. He had been a good governor, and many of us were looking forward to having him clinch a Dem majority in the Senate.
Lisa is as sleazy as her father, a former president of failed banks.
Ted is the foul tempered senior senior Senate Pres. Pro Tem., former chair of the Senate Budget Committee, and great friend to Big Oil, Big Timber, Big Mining, and the military-industrial complex (a former Korean War Sabrejet ace, he has never seen a weapons system that he didn't want to waste money on).
Dumb Young really holds the permanent title as the Dumbest Congressman. I could go on and on about his idiocies, but they are well documented.
For years, I, like many Alaskans, thought of George Miller as our congressman and Paul Wellstone as our Senator...
At statehood in 1959, we were a solid blue-collar Dem state, but then all those oil patch rednecks showed up and began electing the best legislators and congressional delegation Big Oil could buy. Any kind of big drop in oil prices that would send all those Texans back to Texas would sure help Alaskan politics.

god, I can't believe what a colossal asshole he is. I send him an email through truemajority, (it automatically goes to your US legislators) asking him to do something about the crisis in Darfur and what does he do? He responds asking for donations for his 2006 re-election!
That, and he lives in Virginia while using Pennsylvania tax dollars to educate his huge family.
But what makes me really pissed off is the way the RWers worship him as a "good christian". :puke: oh, the hypocrisy

be the warden in Hell when Robin Hayes and Jess Helms get there. I am not sure which one I would enjoy torturing the most for eternity. If I was ever allowed to torture either of them, I would make Hitler look like Santa Claus to them. I used to have a picture of Jesse Helms on my dartboard and I must say it was very therapeutic to impale his eyes with my darts. I loved it. I miss my dartboard now especially with so many Repugs to cycle through. There are enough of them on my shit list now to have a different one each day of the year.
