Why waste words

Be efficient in your answers. Make it short and to the point. For one, I really cannot take time to read paragraph after paragraph to get the jist of a post. I just skip it and go on to something short. Those of you who read extensive long posts and come back with good comments, I commend you. But, I don't have the time or patience for it. I was indoctrinated with the jounalist idea of presenting your point succinctly, in few words, and then letting it burn comments.

3. It depends on how it is written.

Somtimes a post is long because it contains so much information, but if it is written well, I don't mind, and can usually get through it.

what I am saying is to let those who post long know that they are only getting the opinions of those who have the time to read on and on and they would be better off to be succinct and short if they want to get their message read to the majority of us.

A post should have no more and no less words, only enough words to make the point. Wasted words, well not words, but the many paragraph after paragraph that we have to sort through here on DU are the reasons for my posts.
Just don't present me with pages of documents in your posts. Give a summary or something.
I don't have time to waste with lenghty, wordy posts.
That is all I am saying.

11. Sometimes you want to say ideas, sometimes you want to say words.

In these times, saying words has become much more important than it has in the past. We have to make sure we all say the same words when talking to certain people.

when someone, as frequently happens, posts a scroll down post, I just don't have the time for it. I just go on to the next post that is shorter, that I can read in a paragraph and makes sense to me. I really have no interest, myself, in reading long posts. Just me, I guess.

Don't bother to ramble on and on and on and never get to your point without having had to visit several other things or topics or ideas which, though good and necessary in themselves do not add a whole lot to the original idea, but keep it short and concise and to the point because our minds start to bog down if they must go on too long without a break to pause in even though minds don't need to break to take a breath it can still be difficult to figure out what the point of the whole thing was.

Or: most important line is opening line of first paragraph. Most important paragraph is first. First line of every other paragraph is most important of that paragraph. OK to end with a final rounding up of idea. End of English 101, pass go, collect $200.

I think the problem is not the overabundance of words. It's the overabundance of threads that do not contain any level of reasoned out, intelligent, thoughtful ideas.

I've seen posts here where you can tell the author spent a lot of time composing his/her ideas and providing links that show the research involved. Unfortunately, those posts (the ones worth reading) are typically the ones that sink to the bottom the fastest because they get lost in the shuffle of uninspiring, impulsive comments posing as a discussion topic.

It's kind of sad.
