In a 'greatest' post she said that in classical rhetorical there three means of appealing to one's audience--pathos (emotion), ethos (trust), and logos (the strength of one's argument.) The MSM is coasting on ethos, their established brand identity, while bloggers have to depend on logos. Stephen/Ted may as well as have said, "They have no ethos, only logos"--except, of course, that's not funny.
