I abhor this feeling I have for them. I am sick and tired of working on campaigns to defeat amendments, initiatives about things that this evil group spawn, things that should NEVER come to the fore. I am with you. I want to be able to send them letters in prison every day with cheery things about how wonderful life is with them in the slammer. I want to be cruel and I have never, ever wanted anything remotely like that in my whole life and it sickens me to know that I am capable of it. I am sick of trying to fight this within myself. I am not buried in the sand, oh no. I just choose not to listen to corporate owned media. I am out on the streets working locally every day since the middle of February. I was just expressing my way of avoiding the stuff that gets me the most depressed. I get my news on the net, especially here, every day off and on all day. 8. I understand those feelings

I can't watch television news anymore. Prior to the last election, I was glued to the news (though always suspicious and skeptical of what it chose to show).

I can't do it anymore.

The other night, the hubby turned it on and I had to leave the room. I get beyond angry. I have such a feeling of helpless frustration and anger. It's frightening.

I'm home from work with a creaky back so I rented "Outfoxed" which I hadn't yet seen. Watched it and got angry and depressed all over again.

It's the feeling of not being able to change things that makes me so angry. The feeling of impotence. It feels like it's almost senseless to try - nobody listens. I know that's a defeatist attitude but it's hard not feel that way after 2004.

10. Considering the extremes some of the Repugs have forced

upon this country, I think your feelings are only natural. As Nietzsche said: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." And: "And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

He also said "Extreme positions are not succeeded by moderate ones, but by contrary extreme positions." The pendulum tends to swing from one extreme to the other. Even though I am far from a Moderate, even I understand that Extreme Leftism can be just as dangerous as the Extreme Right.

These are all things we must try our best to guard against, no matter how difficult it may be or how much we may wish for some kind of vengeful "justice".

I still believe our best hope is education of the voters. The PIPA report released prior to the 2004 Election showed that most people actually agreed with the Democratic positions, but simply didn't know the Truth.

The problem has been that so many of Repug supporters simply refused to listen! They have become ditto-heads. How do you educate someone who won't listen in the first place?

Fortunately, I think many of them are beginning to have their eyes opened by the actions of the Extremists themselves. The SS "reform" debate, the way they are mistreating our soldiers and veterans, the growing deficit, and their actions in the Schiavo tragedy (whether you agree with the outcome or not, the whole situation was a tragedy for her husband and her family). We shouldn't use TS as a political tool, but that's exactly what the Repugs did and we should call them on it. We should focus on DeLay's Ethics violations and the way he tried to use TS's family tragedy to deflect attention away from the investigation.

I honestly believe that more and more Repug supporters are taking a hard look at what they are supporting, and we have a growing opportunity to educate them.

And I believe we should start working on the local level as well as the National level.

I've mostly stepped away from DU, because it does get me obsessed in ways that I can't use positively. I get too angry knowing the truth and seeing it ignored or subverted all around me.

Instead I am learning banjo, and focusing on my Buddhist practice in terms of challenging my own problems by bringing out the Buddha qualities of Courage, Compassion, Wisdom and Life Force in my own life, and helping to support other people do the same. Fight the negativity and destruction by trying best I can to foster circles of positive growth and affirmations (through action) of my own and other's dignity, seems like the right action, for me. If there were a progressive political group in my area, I'd do that too, but there isn't.

Buddhism teaches we are one, our existence interdependent on all others; therefore we should consider gratitude for our own and other's lives, even those who harm us, since those who are our "enemies" offer the greatest chance for us to strengthen ourselves and use the negative to create something of value. This is not easy when you're fighting urges to slap the shit out of people who are so deluded you can't even believe you're a member of the same species!!!!!

Although I've never actually studied under a Taoist Sage, I've just been inspired by Taoist writings. I've also gotten great inspiration from many Buddhist writings. I've found the two philosophies very similar and even reference each other quite often.

16. I think it's important to try not to succumb to that

although I understand your frustration. We need a government that replaces Bush to be better than what we have now. If we harbor such intense animosity, it is destructive to us personally. And when we do gain power we're likely to proceed from that hatred. I'm all for taking on any strategy necessary to defeat the Republicans, but I believe it important to distinguish expedient strategy from personal animosity that ultimately can only be destructive.
