| Why do people keep saying the Pope helped to end communism |
|
When we all clearly know, because it's been beat into our brains, that it was solely due to the efforts and policies of Saint Reagan. Is the media trying to deceive me?
Sorry, I've had a few beers.

The simplistic kudos that were Reagan's are now the Pope's.
Poor Gorby. He's going to die before he gets a word.

with a lot on the pope's role--I think it was called "His Holiness" and was written by one of the guys who broke Watergate? (I don't remember the details--but it was a good read--and yes it does seem that this pope did play a role in that particular drama.)
I am not Catholic, but hey--why not let the people give him a few kudos while they mourn? It doesn't hurt me one bit for them to do so. he will soon be forgotten anyway.

| 11. The iron curtain was destined to fall without the Pope, or Reagan. |

The Soviets had a very bad habit of never sharing information with each other if they ever failed at anything, thus were never able to learn from their mistakes. Just a couple of examples off of the top of my head:
In the late seventies, US spy planes took pictures of thousands upon thousands of acres of dead wheat. The cause was unknown, because every farm that it happened on, refused to tell other farmers about it, and thus the wheat blight it spread through the Soviet farmland. They were then utterly dependant on wheat imports. Tons and tons of grain from the U.S. fed the Soviet people for a long time.
Another of course was Chernobyl. The engineers could have fixed the problems well in advance of that catastrophic disaster, but would not report it, for fear of being branded as failures.
The Soviet style of communism doomed them from the beginning.

Within 12 hours of the Pope's death, I heard two news people mention the Pope's name and Reagan's name in the same sentence. Tweety was one of them.
