anyone's kid has to go through this. At least it's Afghanistan and not Iraq, though we rarely hear any reports about what's going on there.
But the best thing you can do is visualize him returning healthy and whole and I will as well.
If you need any support please lean on your DU family whenever.

I can commiserate with you, my husband stared down that barrel for Iraq twice this year. So far we've been lucky, and his job here has kept that from happening. I've begun to think it's only a matter of time before they snatch him up.
The lesser of the two evil is Afghanistan, if that is some small minor comfort. Of course when a loved one is 1,000 yard of any dangerous situation it's difficult to not be worried.
Try to be strong and dilligent, and we'll keep fighting to bring them home safe.

If you are in S. CA, you can come over and I will cry with you... Please keep all of us posted and if there is anything he needs INCLUDING BODY ARMOR we will get the cash put together to buy it for him.
Us Democrat liberals LOVE this country enough to weep for you.
Really -- find out about the body armor. I will call the local supplier (There is one here in S. CA) who makes it for the police - I worked on their ad campaign a few years back... We will raise the money and send it to him.

I have been trying to find the proper body armor for your son... What is his height, weight and chest measurements... Does he like black or a pretty camouflage? We'll get him the SWAT designed helmet too...
Fuck the military DOD who does not provide this to every soul out there!
If we can - let's raise enough money to buy more than just one of these...
I hate that monkey in the oval office but I have 2 kids and it would be over my dead body that they will go into any war on foreign soil.
I am pissed off and feel your PAIN-
I am going to launch a "raise some money for body armor" with our local Air America morning team... Even if they don't know it yet.
Come on fellow liberals - Let's kick some ass. :kick:

|
Read my sig line.
The War On Terror is a manufactured conflict brought about by the biggest lie of them all : 9-11.
Just take a look at who has profited from this war and how it has been used to threaten the rights and liberties of your own citizens. Why has this Administration fought so hard to delay, conceal and outright lie about the facts that day? Why are Americans accepting the Saudi connection cover up?
This is nothing short of Orwell's "1984" brought to life.
Have him read up up on General Smedley Butler.
Our only hope may be the military finally turning on the Neo-Cons and their puppets.
He can still save his soul and help others see the truth.

|
your feelings. I'm glad you came here to talk to us and maybe that will help get through a little of this because there is ALWAYS somebody on this sight 24/7.
I will be thinking of your boy and include him when I pray for all the troops.
How old is he? Is he excited? Does he know what he will be doing? Did you make him promise to write you everyday? (smile). If he doesn't mind, ask him if you can share the less personal aspects of his emails/letters with your fellow Dem's here.
Hey, give us his mailing address (or give it to Skinner to give to those of us who are sincere), and I will send him an away-from-home survival kit. You know, candy, magazines, you tell us what he likes and some of us will send him something.
THAT also applies to any other parents who have children in the military. Maybe we can have their names and addresses, what can and cannot be mailed, as well as how we should mail things, and they could be posted on a new board by Admins.
I know my opinion is no comfort; however, I think he would be safer in Afghanistan than Iraq. Afghanistan has pretty much settled down. Iraq is worse than what Israel use to be.
My son is 26 and if a draft comes, that's the only way they will get him; however, I have 3 nephews. Two are 18 right now (both in college) and a third who is 13 -- So he has some time now.
PM if you need to talk. You do have some support at home with you, right? (i.e. husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.,). I could not imagine going through this all alone. Remember, we are here, and we care.

Does he have any special training that could keep him out of combat? Electronics? Computer? Mechanics?
When my brother was sent to Vietnam, my Grandmother wrote her House Representative and asked to have my brother put in the electronics unit. This saved him from combat. He had been working in my Dad's T.V. business since the age of 12.
I would definately pursue this path if he has a special skill.
