How many people are being cut from medical programs in your state

There are 30-40,000 being cut off Minnesota Care because our governor, Timmy Notool Pawlenty sold his soul to the Taxpayers League (they should be called the Tax Evaders League).

I'm in Tennessee for a few days and I swear I heard their local news report that 120,000 are being cut off medical programs there.

It got me to thinking, how many other states are doing this and what are the numbers?

1. I haven't checked the stats in my state but I've been watching

this trend crawl across the country. I first erupted in anger when I heard about Tenn Care and the people of Tennessee. My deepest sympathy and outrage go now to the people of Minnesota.

In my personal case, I was using Medicare and Medicaid together as I'm very low income. The other day I get a paper telling me that Medicaid will NOT pay for my drugs anymore; that I have to buy into Medicare's drug program.

I cannot wait to write a letter to those bozos :grr:

2. My mom got that letter

Sent her into a snit though it said that she would still only have a "small monthly" copay. It also said there would be some more information coming in the fall.

Form said the whole deal would take effect in Jan '06 but more info was on the way.

I'm going to "discuss" (ahem) this with my local medicaid/Medi-Cal office PDQ.

Sent me into a snit also. Say hello to your mom and tell her each of us should work on this with all due diligence.

3. Missouri is the most radical, I believe.

In Missouri, the state government recently passed a budget that will eliminate an estimated 65,000 to 100,000 people from its rolls, including about 24,000 children. Governor Blunt proposes reducing the income limit for Medicaid once more—this time to a mere 30 percent of the federal poverty level (just over $400 a month for a family of three in 2005). This move would eliminate coverage for more than 60,000 working parents.”

Tennessee is scheduled to push 300,000 beneficiaries off its Medicaid rolls.

Alabama is putting it to their citizens badly as well.

7. Looks like a proposal of 1 to 1.6 billion in cuts to medicaid

program in Calif. I couldn't get a break down on how many people may be tossed off, if any. In any case, the lack of funds for services will reduce what one can expect from their doctor for any condition. That's almost as bad as NO coverage at all.

I've been waiting 2.5 months just to get some painful teeth extracted!!!

IIRC. Pretty ugly business, making kids do without medical care. They got hammered on pretty hard by local govts who have to pick up the tab.
