almost exactly the same thing (I said: "if the thugs went after Osama with one tenth as much malice-aforethought and single-minded meanness, then Osama would have been history on Sept 12").

In fact your meme should be the one that all Dems use to terrific effect: "these people should turn their attention to the real enemy -- Osama -- instead of going after liberals". Ridicule is the only thing that will sting these thugs and stick in the public's mind. Lautenberg seems to be the only one who seems capable of this (he actually used pictures of chickenhawks and Darth Vader on the floor of the Senate!!)
