Too bad it's a decade or two too late.
America's dead, Neil. At least you have your native country to fall back on when the rampaging zombie that is this country finally runs out of gas and falls.

|
listening to his music, you would think he was a liberal. so was he just conservative leaning only during reagan years? or was he conservative most of his life until recently with bush's extremism ?

Really - although I didn't much pay attention to what he was doing in the 80's.

I love the man's music and I always will. But he turns with the political tide like nobody I've ever seen. Going from peacenick stuff like Ohio and Southern Man to his pro-Reagan trumpeting in the 80's with "Hawks and Doves" and then back to man of the people with his Bush1 bashing on "Freedom" and then back to right wing supporting with the awful "Let's Roll".
Make up your mind Neil, and if you can't then until then please stop committing your indecision to music.

| 14. Neil has always just done his own thing -- that's part of his appeal |
|
His music has always rocked, and the social commentary it has provided has always been valuable.
Stop bitching because he doesn't fit into that nice little mold of what YOU think HE should be.

But when he insists on being the boy who cried wolf every half a decade or so and going on record in articles, interviewers and songs then I have every right to take issue with it. It's got nothing to do with fitting into a mold. If he held a few consistently held beliefs that didn't fit with other consistently held beliefs then I would have no issue with it.
But when every couple of years he seems to change his entire world view and outlook then after a while I begin to take him less seriously. I still listen to his albums regularly but I have no interest in hearing about his notoriously fickle opinions on world affairs.

I wasn't crazy about his last couple of releases. Mirrorball was the last one that I liked enough to still pull out on occasion.

| 23. Neil Young is a free range animal |
|
He may visit the corral now and then but he has always taken a position that is entirely his own and he's made no excuses along the way. He didn't really campaign for Reagan, you know - he just bought into the conservatism of smaller, more accountable government which Reagan promised but never delivered - maybe because G.H.W. was running the show after 1982. Greendale is simple and complex - depends on how much time you spend with it, like a person. I finally got to watch the DVD concert of it and found myself much more drawn in with Neil giving the storyline more depth as he played through the songs. I cannot imagine anyone who has enjoyed Neil's music over the years not appreciating Greendale as one of his better works. I know the more I listen to it the better it becomes. It's a Mayberry story with a David Lynch quality.

by the way, "I heard some people (DU) been talkin' me down. Bring up my name, pass it 'round."
PS - being a guitarist, watching the DVD made learning the chords so much easier!

Where's your pro-Bush swagger now, you boob.
I get so fucking fed up with these hindsight fuckers who now want to make their grand statements about how awful this administration is.

I don't give a shit WHO wants to talk about how awful this administration is. Come one, come all... step right up and take your shot at this god-awful administration!
I don't care if you're Bill Clinton, Dean, Clark, Chris Rock, Bill Maher, or f*ckin' Ann Coulter. If you're bashing the Bush administration, it won't bother me a bit.

|
is the slime is now more exposed to view. AT least back then there had to be congressional investigations to dig it all up.
