| An Optical Illusion by Daniil Kharms published c. 1935 |
|
Semyon Semyonovich, having put on his glasses, looks at a pine tree and sees that a peasent is sitting in that tree and shaking his fist at him. Semyon Semyonovich, having taken off his glasses, looks at the pine tree and sees that nothing is in the tree. Semyon Semyonovich, having put on his glasses, looks at the pine tree and again sees a peasent sitting in the pine tree and shaking his fist at him. Semyon Semyonovich, having taken off his glasses, again sees that nobody is sitting in the tree. Semyon Semyonovich, having put on his glasses again, looks at the pine tree again, sees that a peasent is sitting in the pine tree and is shaking his fist at him. Semyon Semyonovich doesn't want to believe in this phenomenon and decides that it was an optical illusion.

**I love this story, there is a better one known as a "Cheap Little Trick" by Mikhail Zoshchenko. It's a wonderful little story about corporate corruption.
