The crowd here is growing exponentially as the sun gets higher. Lots of press and cameras, lots of tent moving and reorganization. The cars are stacking up. Old school organizers are teaching the younger folks how to do the do.

A big black pickup just came into the camp and is sitting here leaning on his horn. He was not being blocked. It went on for a good couple of minutes. The natives are getting restless.

We are back at the site. A large contingent of military families is coming in, and the camp press conference is in about two hours. (Me asking: Does anyone know if the camp press conference will be televised?

The sun came up hazy this morning, with the sky divided between blue and high clouds. It feels like a hot one coming on, in more ways than one

I got a call from the campsite at five thirty this morning. Apparently, fourteen white Secret Service SUVs went blasting up the road. It was almost certainly either a security shift change or augmentation, but it made all the demonstrators cat-nervous.

We are getting coffee and are on the way in.

20. The BIG Tent Is Coming Today It Was Too Wet Yesterday

I'm going to call Anarchy1999 in a few minutes to see what else they need. She is on the phone now with Kay from the Peace House. Since the tent I ordered is coming today I am letting them add a few more things to the order. CenTex Rentals has it all. I think they will need coolers, and fans, and a generator. What the heck! Ray and I canceled our vacation next month so we could spend the money here.

That's right stealing tuna landed me in the can. Pun intended. When my fundie rich ex stole my kids and left me high and dry I had to resort to stealing fucking tuna to eat. It's kind of a shock to the system the first time ants charge AT you and bite. Those blisters they leave get nasty! I had some get in my shoe, once.... Not an experience I'd care to repeat. Ever.

With all the rain, the mounds will be sprouting up everywhere. And I mean MOUNDS. Not anthills, but huge MOUNDS - a foot wide. Water and people - fire ants think it's a party. Evil little creatures. Very symbolic of Junior up the road, too. ;)

I was once laying grass sod and the square of sod had a colony living in it. I picked up that square and in seconds, my hands and arms were covered, I ran to a pond to try to rinse the bastards off, with very little success. It took the force of water from a nearby hose. I had to take benedryl and be watched closely for days, their sting in excess can be deadly.

You have to watch for their mounds when you are walking in fields or any grassy area. At least, they are easy to spot here because they are mounds of red dirt.

use any soil they can find. I can tell you that their mounds are taller before a rain - they like to enforce them before bad weather.

145. Fire ants do leave nasty bites, I have 15 of so on my right foot, from

last week and I am still treating them. A good first aid is to use alcohol and then Absorbine, Jr., a tried and true ant bite treatment.

The ants are looking for high and dry locations, watch where you sit and walk.

My grandparents had these big red ants on the farm, and talk about bites, the bites would have big blisters afterward.

Another treatment for ant bites for children is witch hazel, easier for the little kids, doesn't sting.

Everybody take care and I wish I could be there this weekend, I hope to go next weekend (keeping fingers crossed).

Plantago major is a GREAT antidote for fire ant bites. Chew or crush with your fingernails or a rock of something to release the plant juice a bit and apply to the site. Needs to be reapplied after a while (anything does), but it is my favorite insect bite preparation. Plantain may grow wild there, as it does here -- ??

146. Why they call it a ranch is very simple

It sounds more cowboyish that way. Saying it's a "house" is boring. "Country house" sounds too elitist and, it's old identity, "pig farm" is too fitting. :evilgrin: So, even though there are no livestock, they dubbed it a "ranch." Gives him that countrified air with the gullible, dontchaknow? Real ranchers scoff at the title. They point out that it's not even a farm since there are no crops. It's land with a house. Period. It's all about image. Smoke and mirrors with this crowd.

Unfortunately, Texans have split personalities when it comes to the (in)famous. They're so proud someone is from Texas that they are willing to support him long past the point of common sense and put up with an awful lot that they would NEVER accept from anyone else. :shrug: Go figure. It aggravates me no end.

On the positive side, Junior's cage has been well and truly rattled by Cindy and supporters. The lack of sleep is starting to take its toll:

A letter is floating out from some right-wing radio host allegedly from Casey Sheehan's godmother, which has been signed by "various grandparents and cousins" etc. The letter attacks Cindy and says the family stands with Bush. I am heading back to camp and will ask her about it. The letter is signed Cherie Quarterolo.

even if they weren't fire ants, there are some ant varieties here that could make him swell up pretty badly. He might want to consider cortisone cream for topical use and an antihistamine like Benadryl for internal consumption. I once had the entire top of a foot swell up from two bites.
