Anybody from Ohio going to the protest march on the 25th?

4. Duh! Silly me

I was thinking there might be a march in Columbus or something. I know, DC is too far a drive for me, too.

Just before I moved from Cols, one of my friends moved to DC and I told her I might want to visit during protests. She said something like, "well, as long as I don't get in trouble..." at the time I thought - how silly, why would she have problems just because I stayed over to go to a protest? Ah, I was so young...or stupid.

6. I live about 70 miles from Columbus

Drove all the way to downtown Columbus one time for a protest and it was a huge disapointment....there was only about 30 or 40 people there. I couldn't believe there was such a poor turnout.

8. Unfortunately, not surprising

So many employers in Columbus are conservative that many liberals fear being televised at protests. I worked in a Rethug office at one time and tried to get coworkers to go to a pro-choice rally - they were all afraid.

I imagine that complacency plays a factor as well - if all you read is the Disgrace (Cols Dispatch) you'd probably think everything's hunky-dory. I refuse to pay for that rag, and now they require a subscription to read it on-line, so I don't know if it's gotten much better since JWWolfe shuffled off the mortal coil.

If you're familiar with the Franklin County Rethug party, you probably wonder, as I do, if Columbus was a test market for more than fast food, crappy chain restaurants and public opinion.

5. That's what we should do

Get a group together and go. My husband took me to one and it was a disaster. Never go to DC in an RV. We couldn't find a place to park it so after going around several blocks numerous times,my husband got mad and headed back home. I missed the protest and rode all that ways for nothing. I was pissed for weeks. :evilgrin:

7. advice from a "native"--if you can afford it

get several folks together and stay in one of the reasonably priced hotels in Crystal City (Arlington, VA), near the metro stops. Take the metro to wherever the protest will be--Crystal City & Pentagon metro stops are 10 minutes away from the mall. Metro is safe and easy to navigate. Parking is impossible and expensive in DC, and driving is difficult.
