| Are they trying to polarize military families? |
|
I heard an interesting quote from a gold-star mother on Democracy Now that she didn't want families against each other when referring to Shrub's meeting families (one mom at least twice!) who support his him and it got me to thinking.
If you combine this with the right-wing media attacks on Cindy and the other pro-peace families, pro-Bush/war rallies like Melanie "pouty-face" Morgan's and comments from those families who support Bush alleging those who oppose him are against the troops and it seems they are purposeful trying to play on side against the other.
While this would only seem a nature extension of the Bushies division of the country and the "with us or against us" policy, I found this most unsettling. It seems like the wing-nuts are doing the exact same thing they keep falsely accusing Cindy of doing by using military families to support their position and also use them as attack dogs against other families who don't agree with the "noble cause".

as they're doing w/the "Cindy doesn't speak for me" crowd, I'm not too worried. I also saw one of the founders of Gold Star Families for Peace, Celeste Zappala, a peace activist in Idaho, on Democracy Now, and I share her concern in that they do seem to be trying to divide, but I don't think it's working so well. Check out the polls; the blivet isn't loved.

During the Vietnam era, conservatives used to love to say that we didn't support the troops; that most of us were draft-dodgers and wanted to spit on soldiers coming home from the war. They can't say that now, and they miss that. They're trying to find a way to bring it back.
