The "bad looters must be shot" propaganda has to stop. What is going on here and in the MSM is obvious: the government is creating an excuse for the disaster in New Orleans, starving desperate people are being reframed as 'looters' who 'need to be shot'. I think it is time to end the facilitation of the reframing of the atrocity in New Orleans here on DU. I rarely think that any rhetoric is off limits, but I think that this is an exception. I think it is rather obvious at this point that a deliberate effort is being made to readjust the perception of the disaster and we have to stop aiding and abetting that effort.

1. NBC reporter on the ground was saying that the looters issues were

largely overblown and that they were travelling through the city without problem.

He was also saying they were not able to confirm most of the shooting, raping, ,,, stories, but what they were seeing were people dying, that the Convention Center was far from being the worse, but that there were still many, many people stranded in their home in even worse conditions.

If my child was without food or water or diapers or clean, dry clothes, I would take what I needed to survive. And they're calling that looting.

Come to think of it, I'd grab a radio and some batteries and find out what the hell is going on.

No, I wouldn't steal a TV. But I'm not going to pass judgement, and I don't think that stopping those people is the priority.

and I saw a CNN report to the effect that the majority of people there are law abiding citizens, who, despite their justifiable frustration, have gone where they were told to go, and waited, and waited, and waited, where they were told to wait. And what's up with the "snipers"? Who are they, where are they, and how do we know these guys aren't Government operatives?

The person being interviewed is painfully making it clear that we are dying in New Orleans from famine and disease. The reporter keeps tryig to catapult the 'bad looters must be shot' propaganda. This is sickening.

11. If my son is still alive, I WANT him to loot!

He's an insulin dependent diabetic. He WILL die without insulin. He would have no other way to get it, with the hospitals out of everything and the lack of any kind of medical supplies.

Last I heard, there is no miraculous insulin tree that will spring up out of the pavement and grow vials of insulin during disasters.

And if anyone wants to say that means I condone criminals, may you someday go through what I'm going through now.
