They used a three word quote of the Mayor on Monday to say that he was downplaying the problems.

On Lou Dobbs. Showed school buses parked in lot that they said could have been used to evacuate people. That sounds like a Rove clip and sound bite to me.

He said thanks for that perspective. She talked about the school buses about Hurricane Ivan last year and some hurricane in 98 and how it was known back then that the Superdome was a bad place to house victims.

I guess it was Nagin and Blanco that cut billions out of the Army Corps of Engineers' budget.....
Nagin and Blanco aren't entirely without blame, but they have maybe 1% of the blame for not driving evacuees out with their own personal vehicles.
The other 99% of the blame rests solely on Bush and the Republicans in congress who slashed the budget of the ACOE. New Orleans wouldn't have been destroyed had the levees not failed. The levees failed because of budget cuts.
END OF DISCUSSION!

The "perspective" that you shared with your viewers about the blame falling solely on the local government of New Orleans, why not offer a balanced report and talk about the blame in Mississippi or Alabama? It seems too often with this administration, that when they screw up, the blame falls squarely on someone else's shoulders. I would not be surprised that the meme that has been going around the last few days saying it was the victim's faults hasn't made it as "perspective" on your program.
As has been reported by your network and others, New Orleans made it through the hurricane just fine, it was the levees that burst that didn't. It is Louisiana's fault that the FEDERAL government cut their budget for improving the levees? It's a shame in a tragedy like this, you and your ilk, always tow the line for this miserable failure of an administration.

and points out where that segment failed. It did surprise me that Lou didn't have a rebuttal. Maybe because for days now the journalist in NO have discussed and shown the problems. CNN has shown the rants (justifiably) of the mayor and other local officials.
As I type Lou is making your point. He does better coverage of this administration then most. He just pointed out the problems with the new bankruptcy law going into effect which will no doubt hurt the people of NO and the condition of the levees prior to the storm, etc.

It just angers me that the MSM just doesn't seem to want to do what they are being paid to do, present the facts. I have no problem with the facts coming from both sides, as long as they are facts and not someone's spin or opinion.

that the GOP under Bush has used the South and now they are taking the South for granted, not even bothering to understand Southern culture or needs. I just know they are going to try to move in a bunch of contractors from up north to do the Reconstruction, and it is going to piss off the locals who will be too polite to say anything out loud, but they will be muttering under their breaths the whole time about the damned Federal Government, and * and Co. are going to be SO suprised when their faithful southern constiuents arent so faithful in 2006.

|
Last time I was there, it overwhelmed me with a sense of disintegrating infrastructure. My friends who lived there paid all of $100 a year on property taxes. The place was falling apart, crime totally out of control.
It was a city that NEEDED some federal intervention. What happened is so not surprising (though the foot-dragging federal response WAS).
Moreover, the disaster was of epic, national proportions. The cash-strapped, embattled local government had not a chance against it -- no matter how well-intentioned they were.

there around this Country thanks to the 'compassionate conservatives"? Many cities will be in the same shape when/if a natural disaster hits. So watch out FReepers, you could be next! And don't you DARE expect the Fed. Gov. to come to your aid after the bush ass kissing you have engaged in these past few days!

Yes, it's true that first responder duties fall to the local authorities. And yes, it's true that cities handle their own evacuations. But there's no way that anyone could possibly believe that a city, or a state for that matter, could be capable of evacuating millions of people in one day. What kind of resources do they think they have? How many jobs can one state trooper perform at the same time.
I'm sick of politicians in Washington interpretting "state's rights" to mean "state's mess"! Just because something falls under the control of the state does not mean that the federal government, with its wealth of resources, cannot lend a hand. It is exactly that kind of disconnect between local and federal planning that got us into this mess!
If that's the case, I'm not going to pay federal taxes anymore.
