| CBS Philly reported heating gas up 71%, oil 31% and elect. |
was I think 17 %. I'm gonna get me some electric heaters. The ones where you heat the oil and the electric shuts off till the oil cools, seem pretty good.

| 5. If you have drafts, get some rope caulk and plug the cracks |
On a windy day, it's easy to tell where the cold is getting in. Often around the windows, sometimes at the baseboards. Just fill the gaps -- rope caulk is temporary and can come off next spring -- and you'll be a lot cozier for less expense.

| 7. Thanks, If I were staying I would replace the darn windows. I |
keep thinking the Association will fix my water leak so that I can put it up for sale, but they keep firing the management co's and it all starts over. It has been 4 yrs. of the bull. My advise, don't ever buy a condo!

| 3. Don't know if those oil heater are particularly efficient, |
but they put out plenty of heat and are damn quiet! I've got a couple of them. Bought two of them for $25 each from a guy who cleaned out Home Depot at the end of the season last spring.

heat anywhere. You have to practically sit on it in a larger room to even notice that it is there. It's nice for the bathroom though. ------------------------------------------------------ Ditch Bu$h and save the Gulf: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=106&topic_id=22507&mesg_id=22507Then save the nation! http://timeforachange.bluelemur.com/electionreform.htm

| 6. Funny story. My heat was off and I checked everything that I |
could think of. I have a parrot, the chill can kill them quickly. I bought one of those heaters for her room 10 X 10. It did a pretty good job. I called my girlfriend (her SO does electrical). He said to recheck the thermostat. I had gotten new AC, recently and they installed the battery therm. All I had to do was change the batteries. I felt so dumb, but I had forgotten about the new therm. I checked it, but not the batteries.

| 8. I am in a leaky uninsulated old SoCal house ...............gas furnace ... |
last winter to save on heating costs I just used an electric space heater to keep me comfy in whatever room I was using. I would shut the doors to bedrooms, etc so I didn't try to heat the whole house. It worked especially well when I went into the office room and shut the door, kept toasty without using the furnace much at all that winter. Saved $.

There is at least one other thread here about this. I am not kidding. If this many of us our thinking about it, tomorrow the stores are going to be jammed!
