| Bush on the role of government |
|
You know, part of the role of government is to create an environment in which people are willing to take risk and -- which means low taxes, reasonable regulation
Yeah, that would be great if we could just TRUST YOU FUCKERS not to screw us over and rape America every damn chance you get. Yes I'm talking about you Halliburton. Yes I'm talking about you Enron.

| 1. I don't trust any of them...haven't since the Supreme Court |
|
gave W the job.
A BIG Thanks to the "High Court" for the worst 5 years EVER! The WORST "President" EVER!
I agree though it was nice when I could count on my Government...like with Clinton those 8 years.

| 2. AND part of the role is to collect tax funds fairly from ALL citizens |
|
so that the PUBLIC GOOD can be tended to. There ARE things that ordinary people CANNOT do for themselves...These HAVE to be done by the government...
These are (but not limited to)
road building energy production/storage/distribution communications banking system health care public education transportation
If THESE basics are tended to and provided at a fair price, our society would be a lot better off, and the risk takers would still be rich.

| 5. Most rich people need those services as well |
|
Maybe they can pay for private education and non-emergency health care, but they need the fundamentals as much as the rest of us. If there is a huge earthquake in Seattle tomorrow, the haves will be just as likely to need treatment at the publicly-funded Harborview Hospital as the rest of the humanity in the region.
And they will need the bridges and the roads to be sound.
Their millions will not help them.
Why don't they see this? We need taxes for infrastructure support.
*sigh*

| 3. ".. and reasonable regulation ..." |
|
Look, therein is the crux of the problem. Regulation had gotten unreasonable and unreasoning ... a correctable problem. Bush's notion of "reasonable regulation" is to award no-bid contracts to his friends and screw the public. Clearly, the Free Market has shown it cannot, for example, deal with problems like global warming, which represent impediments to the profit motive. Regulation through government, which represents the interests of other necessary motives as well, is therefore required.
Striking the effective balance is the problem, and the solution will be seldom found through blind adherence to rigid ideological theories.

| 4. I actually spoke to a Bush supporter tonight. I said that Halliburton |
|
is stealing our tax money, out from under us in plain sight. No, contest. I can feel it in the air tonight!
There will not be a viable Repub. party soon, but there are a lot of Dem. sellouts too! We need a plan, to actually take back our country.

And it must be a mighty plan. We must redeem our hopeless and poor, rebuild our education system, all while preparing for unpredictable climate change and dealing with rapidly shifting geopolitical realties.

| 7. The problem is the money it takes to advertise. I think most people |
|
want to believe that the gov't actually gives a rip about the least among us, (and the others). Katrina opened the door, if we don't respond, then we are enablers.
It is time, to buckle down, forgo the the new technologies, (starve the beast) and spend our dinars properly.
The chit is going to hit the fan, the question is what side of the fan are we going to be on?
