Jackson on target in criticism
STEVE PENN
First of all, Jesse is right. They’re citizens, not refugees.
What’s more important, his assessment of the plight of New Orleans residents is also on the money. They were citizens who were unprotected from impending danger.
You know how it can be with the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Sometimes he can be off the mark. Other times, he can be right on target.
When it comes to his views on the poor and the response to Hurricane Katrina, Jackson’s criticisms are valid.
He castigated the press for using the word “refugee” to describe the people fleeing the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Most commonly the word is reserved for those fleeing to a foreign country to escape danger or persecution.
