| DU research dept. - need help on Plame coverup |
|
I should have bookmarked the links when they first appeared, but didn't. Has anybody kept a record of the coverup by Bushco? Specifically, the link that documents the date and circumstances for the White House asking Justice to hold off on their order to turn over documents regarding the Plame leak. I remember somebody posting a link stating that the WH asked for a one day wait before issuing their order. I want to write a letter to the editor and need as much documentation as you can provide. I already have the quotes from the Repugs directed at Janet Reno about not being impartial enough to investigate Clinton, etc.,but want to also raise the issue of stonewalling and conflict of interest from as many angles as possible. Thanks. CS

Thanks for that link. I didn't realize that John Dean was on top of things so early in the game. That's pretty damned significant.
And, also, you might have to scroll back a bit, but the ever-excellent Josh Marshall has been all over this story from the beginning.

I have looked at some of the sources and can't find the one I am looking for - namely that the White House asked Justice to hold off for a day before issuing their order to keep all documents - it was posted somewhere on DU.

..you should be able to find that by looking in the Washington Post's search engine.

| 5. the NYT had a story on October first that... |
|
....included that info. But it wasn't the central point of the story.
The Justice Department informed the White House of its decision to move ahead with an investigation on Monday evening. Bush was told of the decision early Tuesday morning by the White House counsel, Alberto R. Gonzales, who then informed the president’s senior staff at their regular 7:30 a.m. meeting.
“The president has directed full cooperation with this investigation,” Gonzales said in a memo distributed to White House staff members Tuesday morning.
After receiving a letter from the Justice Department Tuesday night with its specific requests, Gonzales distributed a second memo with details of the information investigators would seek, including records relating to contacts with the three journalists and those related to the husband of the CIA officer, Joseph C. Wilson IV, a former diplomat who has been critical of the administration’s use of intelligence to justify the war with Iraq.
