3. I just got into an argument...

with a naval officer over this. He was quite proud at how evasive Roberts was being, and how dare "that piece of garbage" Kennedy ask him theoretical questions....

Then the discussion devolved into whether it was morally right to lie to a commission to get a job, with the officer claiming that it was ok to do whatever it took to get on the inside.

The only time you "evade" is when you are hiding something. Hiding your responses is dishonest. What's to be proud of dishonesty?

If you have nothing to hide then be direct. You can always qualify an answer, but you have to give it first.

getting caught brings dishonor. Unless it was his butt that was getting group diddled or his money that got stolen.

Allowing someone to be a victim of sexual harassment or to get away with stealing money from the government is certainly NOT honor.

If you have honor because you have managed to keep from being dishonored, it's not real honor. To have real honor you have to do honorable things, even if they are hard to do.

Anyway, I can't imagine the other supremes dealing with him either. Weren't there rumors that Scalia was so desparate for the chief justice seat that he was threatening to resign if he didn't get it? I doubt he'll be totally accepting of Roberts, who for all of his self-proclaimed humility and modesty sure seems to think he knows, is and has EVERYTHING. I get the idea that Scalia thinks he knows, is and has everything but would never call himself humble or modest. Oh to be a fly on the wall.
