Who is celebrating the Jewish holiday and what does it mean to you?

I read about it but I'm still not really sure what Rosh Hashanah is about.

2. it is the New year

but unlike the Christian counterpart it is the beginning and the end and a very contemplative period... of course if I were celebrating I would be at Temple right now and not here at DU... but for multiple reasons I cannot stomach temple any more... I miss my small on base temple in Hawaii... homey, led by us, and nobody cared what one wore.

Some of the highlights

Dinner with family (Hubby is working graveyard so I added something sweet to the chicken)

A period to reflect on what you did good and you did bad

Asking for forgiveness to all those people you wronged in the course of the year... for it does not matter if god should forgive you, if you don't ask for forgiveness then god will not. By the way, if you should and they don't forgive you, now the onus of the sin is on them not you

oh and there is no partying or anything like that... as I said the symbols are a circle or the head of a fish (head of the year), and yes you should have something sweet, to wish upon you and others a good sweet year, with health, but happy new year is not one of the things said

3. Rosh Hashannah. . .Jewish New Year. . .started last night, ends tomorrow

night. . .kicks off the High Holy days. To me, it means a new beginning after a hard year.

I was in shul last night.

6. Letterman 's show last night had a skit that was hilarious.

Biff was in Times Square reporting on the New Year and he said" many are gathered here for the Newish Jew Year".Letterman and Paul were cracking up. Poor Biff started the skit all over again --he was embarrassed.

were present at my Shul this morning (and will be tomorrow). The blowing of the Shofar only happens rarely.

European Jewry celbrates the New Year over 2 days, as traditionally the Rabbi's in Isreal would announce the date, and it could take a while to make it to the entire country, so it was celebrated for 2 days to ensure at least one of them was correct.
