| Don't count on the new found public dislike for Bush and Republicans... |
|
...is going to equate into some new found love of Democrats. I think too many Democratic politicians are counting on just such a thing so they are playing rope a dope right now. Yep they are right back to their usual tricks.
The reason I am saying this is because the more I dislike Bush and his minions the more I dislike all politicians. Why? Because the Dem's are not calling Bush on his shenanigans every time I turn my television on like they should be right now. I don't know where they are? And when one does come out from wherever they have been to say something they sound like Bush on the issues that mean something to me.

they should never have let reagan talk them into the corner where they exist now.

(NOT meant as an excuse)
US Senators, yes US SENATORS, have to stand up in front of cameras and SCREAM news stories out for them to get any attention. Repubs refuse to call hearings and without hearings the talking suits on MSM will not cover it, there is no investigative journalism to speak of anymore. Think about that. US Senators have to jump up and down and SCREAM to get attention on news stories while missing blondes and illogical nutsyfagin RW theories get actual news coverage.
The last weeks of the campaign Kerry literally ripped stories off the front page and made speeches about them (HE broke the Al Qua Qua ammo dump story for the most part) while the talking suits just talked about how he couldn't get his message out and had discussions about how he couldn't get his message out.
The same thing is happening again. "What is the Dem's answer? (solution)" Uh how about
IT IS ALL BLOWING UP IN OUR FACES
WE AREN'T READY
THEY ARE INCOMPETENT BOOBS
Hows THAT for a message? but oh no MSM still says "White House sources say...." as if that is a credible source.

Have you ever heard the term "liberal media"? Millions of times right? Do you know where that came from? The Republicans kept pushing that talking point until it became an everyday term. Didn't they? The Dem's could call out the media on their bias and BS reporting too. If they wanted to.

but getting the message out is THE battle (in these sound bite times)
After the election a year ago would have been the time that the Dems should have said OKAY THAT'S IT to the media....but no they can't do that the media might turn on them ( how much worse could it get?) :scared:
They should have and Dean should be doing that as DNC chair.
The backlash from the media will be brutal but it needs to be done.

Democrats need to unite behind programs that are a bit more idealistic than perfectly practical, but not too idealistic.
For example, healthcare for all. Some way, some how, but healthcare for all.

In the last two weeks I've heard hard-core right-wingers make these statements, "I think the Democrats would have done a better job helping those Katrina victims" and "I'm so sorry I voted for that evil degenerate". I think the scandals and the hurricanes are opening up peoples' eyes to the fact that the Republican party is full of hypocritical liars, and their slandering of Democrats will be far less effective in '06 and beyond.

and provide an appealing, positive, clearly articulated, relentlessly promoted alternative vision against the Republicanites, the only result of the revelations of the Bush administration's malfeasance will be further deep disillusionment with all politicians.
Voter participation will fall even lower, with the Republican true believers hanging in there, the Democratic true believers trying to fight back, and the much-coveted "swing voters" deciding that they'd rather watch football.

It is the media in BushCo's control. The GOP even likes to brag about it, how they spent years consolidating power and refining their message, and that includes the message delivery system, and perception management.
Yesterday afternoon was a prime example. The democrats fought like hell against the give-away to big oil, and the republicans held open the vote, shouted them down, and strongarmed stragglers. When they finally got what they wanted, 45 minutes later, they quickly shut down the vote and declared victory, to loud chants of SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! througout the hall.
Afterwards, a group of key democrats held a news conference, which was one of the most scathing I have seen. They were pissed off, named names, had documents, made accusations of outright corruption backed up by Dick Cheney's own words.
So I ask you..
What did YOU see on the "news" last night? Terra terra terra?
Hmm?
It isn't the dems. They can scream all they want, but the media is the message, and the media told America nothing happened.

Otherwise they are part of the scam. I seen 2 Dem's on Tweety last night gushing about what a great job was being done to protect us from terra. What terra? The terra in Bush's mind? The Dem's like this be scared of the terra shit just as much as the Republicans. That way they don't have to actually work. Just keep passing spending bills for this buffoon in the white house to finance wars that are making more terra. They all get their cut. I can remember having a Democratic president who said "the only thing to fear is fear itself". What happened to those days?

And who does Tweety work for? Defense Contractor General Electric. They allow a couple dems on to lob softballs, and to give an appearance of "fairness," but why are they viewed as OPPOSITION on a supposed NEWS program? Tweety should be devoting every fucking show to the bullshit going on, because THAT is the news, not his self-serving choad-slurping of BushCo officials. Don't you see how sad this is? Major crimes are being committed, have been committed, and you're happy than two dems got five minutes on Tweety's show. What is wrong with this picture?
And what do you suppose would have happened if Tweety actually had all dems on for his full hour, and they laid out all the bullshit going on? We'll never know, will we? Not gonna happen.

I think some people just want the entire country to fall apart so that everybody will be as miserable as they are. If the lefties aren't satisfied after yesterday, they never will be. I also think the reason they don't go form their own party, and really get behind it, is because that would require work and all they really want to do is bitch.

You didn't pay any attention when Clinton was President and the Democrats were fighting these bastards. They waltzed right into power while write-a-check activists were partying around the mail box, waiting for their latest dividend check. And now those same people want the people in DC to get a spine??? Where was your spine last week when I posted on at least 5 different actions Democrats were taking that got little or no response on this board AT ALL. Or at Kos or at MyDD. Where was everybody during the ANWR Rally last month? If people spent half the time backing Democrats as they do bitching, we'd have this country turned around in 30 days flat. Hell, all we had to do was transfer our stock into environmentally friendly stock on Nov 3 and watch this country do a U-Turn. If we had to depend on today's activists to change tuna fishing laws, the dolphins would all be dead. With the new Endangered Species Act, they will be soon enough anyway.
Sorry if I'm not impresseed with people who bitch at the leaders doing the hard work, but never show up for the real fights. And there are more real fights in this country than the war.

they are different, not deferring as usual.
You know, all that business about "shame, shame" over the refinery bill vote....well, the GOP pulled the same thing before with a Medicare vote...and the Dems sat there. The problem is, they've been sitting there all along and that's why we're at the point where we have been railroaded on nearly everything. Then to suddenly raise a voice about a refinery bill....too little, too late. And Reid and this Miers thing and all that phony smoke blown about the strategy about using a filibuster...I feel "faked out" by Dems as well as Republicans....
As for the media...if the Dems showed consistent spine, they'd get more coverage. Controversy trumps everything else. But to act pansy-assed will get you no RESPECT or COVERAGE.
Frankly, I'm reverting to Independent status....this party is pathetic. There's a Progressie Voter Alliance in town which I'm going to see about joining....

The Dem's are all in some lobbyists pocket just like all the Repugs are. Everyone knows it. So Bush and the Republicans threw us the constituents a bone (Miers) to cover for the Dem's and try to make them look not so weak and corrupt as to not screw things up and hurt the bottom line (money and power) for all of them. These flim-flam men in DC are not fooling everyone.
