I've always thought curses are best broken in Yankee Stadium. Y'all got trashed by one Sox last year. Now, of course, the Sox are on the other foot, and Chicago is of course going to go all south side on y'all.

A lifelong Yankee fan.
Seriously I have more respect for lifelong fans of losing teams than I do people who can't even proudly call out their favorite team much less attempt to take credit for teams they don't even follow themselves.
Hey if I'm wrong prove it, but from my experience people from South Chicago and Boston don't use the phrase "Y'all"

| 3. Cubs fan here, in a mixed marriage. |
|
My husband roots as hard for the White Sox as I do for the Cubs. We go to each other's games once a year.
I am all for these Sox walking on the Yankees, that is if they can manage to win tomorrow night. I doubt it.
That Derek Jeter is the smarmiest s.o.b. in baseball. I am so sick of the camera seeking out his face. He mugs for them, too. I just don't get it. There are plenty of better looking men.
Y'all better be ready for the White Sox.

We'll let the scoreboard do the talking.
Well despite that you're rooting for the rival team of your own team....but it's your husband I guess it's a pass in this case. It's not like being in a mixed marriage between the Cubs and Cards I suppose...
BTW check out Jeter's actions, plays, and his genuine love for his fellow players and the game itself before you lower him to Randy Johnson's status please.

There would be no way this Cubs fan could do that.

|
I could be wrong, I claim complete ignorance with that rivalry, but I've heard that after cards-cub games it's not uncommon to see fans of both sides get together at the local watering hole to toast and share drinks.
A custom you'd NEVER see between Sox and Yank fans. Although I for the first time made MANY a friends with Sox fans for our shared interest in seeing Bush go down....we're back to hating eachother now (kidding!) :)

No offense to you, I'm just sorta amused by how unnoticed the Sox animosity towards the Cubs goes by their fans. Do those blue hats reflect the black intentions of our hearts or something?

Were the situation reversed, if your husband were a good Sox fan, he would not be supporting the Cubs. Oh, sure, he might have claimed he did back when you made your little run. But inside, he died a bit with every cheer he forced out his throat. Because I have never met a real Sox fan that didn't like a Cubs loss as much as a Sox win.
Eh. When the media machine owns the other team, you get a bit jealous, I suppose.
Seriously, though, tell me: Do you think the Tribune and WGN (and, if you read it, RedEye) cover the Cubs more favorably than the Sox? Not this year, certainly, but in general?

I think one of the reasons Chicago is a Cubs town is because of the PR machine.
There are other reasons of course.
He would cheer for the Cubs, though, and mean it. I raised our kids to be Cubs fans, and he can't get around it.

Currently attend University of Chicago, located at 55th and University. Also said y'all since birth. My mother was from rural Maryland. Attended 8 games this year, which is a fair amount for a college student on a limited income. And thanks for the assumptions.

why did you think I wasn't a real fan? Meaning, did you have any *reason* to think so? At all? Or did you just assume that the White Sox lack actual fans?

|
was because you never referred to The White Sox as YOUR team. You mentioned them in passing as though the only reason youb bothered typing their name was because they just happen to be sitting comfortably in a garunteed ACLS spot.
Maybe White Sox aren't as passionate I dunno, but I would never refer to the Yankees without calling them my home team.

Yeah, we are, but the "my Sox" business isn't quite so big in my circles. I don't know what most Chicagoans say, but "my Sox" just sounds weird to me. They're "The Sox." Some people do say "My Sox," (and I've only heard that as a response to a "My Cubs") but even then it sounds off to me. I don't know, I suppose that I grew up in such a homogenous baseball environment (not many Cubs fans down where I am) assertion of our team just wasn't necessary often. I guess it's just a cultural thing. The "My X" business to me just sounded a bit affected--something a north side yuppie or some, no offense, spoiled 26-champion New Yorker, or media-coddled Sawx fan would say. I guess that's why it's not natural to me.
But, if it makes you happier, My Sox will beat Your Yankees. In four. You'll either pick up the game Garland throws or Garcia throws, but you've got no chance the first two.

fan.
I can't say that I appreciate it, either. Nor would my husband.
When we were younger, I used to tease my brother because he went to both teams' games. I told him he was not a very good Cubs fan. He said, "Of course I am. And can't I be just a sports fan?"
He lived in Baltimore when they won the World Series. He went to a game and cheered for them. He lives in San Francisco now, and attends games in San Francisco and Oakland. The Cubs still come first with him. But I get his point. Who decides what a "real fan" is?

|
Sorry to offend you, I pretty much figure you're either a Sox fan or a Cubs fan--if you're both, you're not a very good either. It's sorta like claiming you like both the Dems and the Republicans, in my mind. You can either be one or the other. Both? Nah. "Chicago Fans," those people who wear those damn half-cubs half-sox shirts at the crosstown games...I just don't like them. Because they don't buy into the bitter rivalry, I suppose, and I like the rivalry.
And no offense to you, but I was raised to believe a Cubs fan is the epitome of evil ;) Sorry if the teasing came off as offensive, I didn't mean to be. Mostly with my Cubs friends, I claim they're not fans but fashionable, and they mention that Chicago is a Cubs town, our attendances suck and therefore *we're* not the real fans, etc.

I think the Yanks are a fundamentally weaker team this year. More like the Red Sox--they've got the bats and to a lesser extent the fielding, but our pitchers will just shut them down and let our admittedly-mediocre bats edge ahead. And the White Sox have fire, whereas the Yanks are playing sloppy and almost lazy.

If the White Sox and the Cards don't make it to the World Series, I'll be very surprised since every other team seems to have major problems in multiple facets of the game.

They seem to play like the Sox, only they can hit. Difficult to compare pitchers across leagues, but I think the AL/NL DH difference helps us out significantly--Everett isn't worth shit, so we won't be at a team-chemistry disadvantage when playing in St.L.

that since pitching wins series, the Yanks may be in better shape tomorrow that they've been in all year . . . their real lack has been middle relief, and tomorrow they'll have Wang, Small, and Johnson -- and even Chacon if he's needed -- available . . . in a pitcher's duel, they should be ok . . .

The White Sox have the best pitching in the game, I believe, but man, if only we had one or two better bats. Like if Everett, say, were Ortiz instead...
