| Safe Deposit Boxes - The next Katrina Victim |
|
Our branch bank in Slidell Louisiana has been closed since the hurricane. It took in at least six feet of water. The safe deposit boxes were moved to a town west of New Orleans so they could be "decontaminated" by the EPA. I got a letter today from my bank to make an appointment to come remove the contents of our safe deposit box and close the safe deposit box account. We have a medium size box and its chock full of important papers; 30K of savings bonds; a car and a truck title, my original DD-214, birth certificates, our marriage certificate, my will and my grandma's watch.
Can't wait to see what's growing on my retirement documents.

I hope at least Grandma's watch made it through.

She died in 1960. She had four grandchildren, I was the youngest and got last dibs on four of her personal items, but I think I got a great part of my Grandma. Its a beautiful watch. Maybe it'll be nuclear powered now.
