Is it me or do the employees at Costco just seem genuinely happy

We did our big monthly shop at Costco today, and it was very crowded, but everyone working there, and even one employee who had just gotten off work, were smiling and genuinely helpful.

I read here that the employees were more friendly etc... but when I walked into the place it almost seemed if it was coached. much better than other retailers.

5. One of the networks did a story on CEOs and the Costco guy paid

himself 12 times what his employees made and his contract was one page long. He wears a nametag. Travels to a dozen stores a day. And they pay their employees really well. So well in fact they have the lowest turnover rate adn move employees up from cart boys to VPs.

Just different philosophy. One where some profit is made but that the lives of the employees play an importance in the corporations existance.

I think some employees were paid $17 an hour.

Maybe Jobs With Justice can help them with the "Card Check" campaign.
It would prevent employers from intimidating and firing prior to an NLRB union vote .

I shop pretty regularly in the Brooklyn, NY store and employees there are not particularly happy.

And they don't treat customers there very well either. The place is horrible on weekends.

and my parents were born and grew up there and the rest of my family stayed there.

It's inborn. Not even Costco can fix everything ...

12. I Sent My Husband There the Other Day

He is a man who can barely find his way around our kitchen! Of course he had no idea where anything is in the store. He asked employees (imagine a man asking for directions) and everyone was very helpful and he came home with the list correct and complete! The first thing he said when he came home was how nice and helpful everyone who worked at Costco were. How rarely we hear that about the retail world.

16. Usually, when I get consistently bad service at a store, I assume

it has something to do with management. Years ago, when I used to shop at Wal-Mart occasionally, I had a bad experience every time I went there. It was no surprise when I found out just how badly they were treating their employees.

Just one more reason to shop Costco!

Last time I was in a Walmart, I felt like I had to have a flak jacket on. We were in rural Wisconsin, and my husband forgot to pack socks. We went to KMart first (on principle) but that KMart did not carry HUGE FEET socks (my husband wears a size 14 EEE shoe). So we went across the street to the Walmart, which did have the needed socks.

I've been to my local WalMart exactly once, and the place was so horrible I would never go in there again, even if I didn't despise the corporation.

But damn it, I wear size 15 shoes, and therefore size 15 socks. And finding decent socks is actually more difficult than shoes. So now that I know that WalMart actually DOES have them, it will be difficult to avoid them. I can put it off until all my socks have too many holes to wear anymore, I guess. :evilfrown:
