I remember when I started teaching at an all-black school in Texas. I went in to meet the principal, who had a large portrait of Malcolm Shabaz on her wall. I said, "Oh, you have a picture of my brother on your wall." She looked sort of startled, because I'm melatonally challenged. That's when she found out Islam goes beyond race.
