I thought of this yesterday. Since it appears that he has, ahem, health problems, he very likely would rather be hanging around at his farm in Crawford than being president. (Yeah, I know, he does a lot of them even if he is president.) He sucks at public speaking and can't deal with anyone disagreeing with him. He's a Charlie McCarthy anyway.

I can imagine him not wanting to run again in 2004, but others persuading him to, rather than the party changing horses in mid-stream.

That ambition is absent. Most Presidents really, really, really wanted to be there, and will talk and reflect on this. Clinton, Reagen, Carter, Nixon, for better and for worst, waited their whole lives to get in the hot seat.

19. Poppy got into politics

because he admired the opulent lifestyle his father, Prescott, acquired when he became Senator. He and Bar loved the parties, too. Poppy's political resume consisted mostly of a series of appointed positions: Ambassador to China; U.N. Ambassador (held for 6 months). I doubt Junior ever dreamed of being President until he was drafted, but I'm sure he loves the perks: his very own jet; being waited on hand and foot; ordering people to die at his whim; not to mention those great desserts.

7. He followed the Texas Model

Weak Governor model.

He really didn't do much. Just "pontificated" over what the legislature did and what the cabinet implemented. He was more of a figure-head for the state.

He thought "presidentin'" would be similar. Unfortunately, Cheney and the gang wanted to consolidate all power into the Executive Branch which meant that "presidentin' " would be much much more than a figure-head....

8. Bush is just doing what mommy told him to do.

I personally can identify with bush. I did what my parents thought was important. But at some point in time, I began doing what I thought I should do. And it was very uncomfortable. I have a mother who shares facets of Barbara Bush. Very controlling, in a super subtle way.

Bush never wanted to be anything. He has no calling. No intelligence to speak of. Although Barbara says he's "stupid as a fox". Maybe she knows something I don't. I may be wrong. But George is very good at biking, chainsawing, and most physical labor. He should have been a brick layer.

This is what happens when people do what they shouldn't be doing. For example, Hitler should have been an artist. He was railroaded into being a figurehead for fascism. Sound familiar?

He wants nothing to do with the work of the office.
He sees himself as King George and everything else is controlled by his court.
