| Can the English language survive "The Madness of King George"? |
|
Quotes include:
"The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country." - George W. Bush
"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." - George W. Bush
"One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'." - George W. Bush
"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future." - George W. Bush
"The future will be better tomorrow." George W. Bush - "We're going to have the best educated American people in the world." - George W. Bush
"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made." - George W. Bush
"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe We are a part of Europe." - George W. Bush
"Public speaking is very easy." - George W. Bush
"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls." - George W. Bush
"We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur." - George W. Bush
"For NASA, space is still a high priority." - George W. Bush
"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children." - George W. Bush
"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." - George W. Bush
"It's time for the human race to enter the solar system." - George W. Bush
And something to be REALLY worried about: God help America ....

| 1. Somehow, these don't seem funny anymore -- just so SAD that we |
|
have a man with this kind of a brain in the highest office.
Sometimes I just can't believe it.

I'm concerned about this myself. And it's not just the stupid comments.
This administration, especially Rumfeld et al, insist on twisting and distorting the English language until you don't know what's right.
"Unknown knowns and known unknowns"
"the enemies of the government" Instead of "insurgents" (The dreaded EoTG)
"Weapons of Mass Destruction Program-Related Activities"
Makes me ill.

his parents tout him as if he were the greatest thing on earth.
do you think they know they have an imbecile for a son, or are they too the sort of people who cannot see that the emperor wears no clothes?

I never thought it was particularly amusing, and now it's just part and parcel of the morass his evil, corrupt administration has thrust this country into (massive debt, war, neocon-fascism, etc.) His tortured syntax and utter inability to express himself in a grammatically cohesive sentence is an embarassment to this country. He is a world leader on the world stage and he cannot speak without sounding like an ass or a hick. Compare almost any other country's leader today: Blair, Chirac, Putin, Berlusconi, etc. They all sound like Lord Olivier or Shaw by comparison. And don't even look to history. For God's sake, Eisenhower or Gerald Ford sound like professors by comparison. And Dubya has that annoying, phony, affected Texas Twang thing going on. Wants everyone to think he's just a downhome, good ol' boy when in reality he's not Texan at all but the scion of a patrician elite power family from the Eastern U.S. Everytime I read one of his blooper quotes, or hear him stumbling on TV, I cringe and wonder what the rest of the sophisticated world must think that we put this evil, inarticulate dolt in power.

It may be butchered here. But it is well spoken in China, India and many more countries. So his ability to ruin the language is limited.

| 9. English has always had a remarkable ability to survive |
|
And thrive.
Of course, the question is, will American democracy survive the current onslaught? I fear it has already been damaged beyond repair.

| 13. Try to be hopeful, DavidD. This country has survived so many |
|
different debacles, historical, political, in word and deed. We were just at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii in October of this year. I'm sure people on that beautiful island of Oahu thought it was the end of the world that infamous day.
Perhaps the pendulum has finally begun to swing "our way."
Wishing you a happy, healthy, hearty holiday season,
In peace,

Deaf and poisoned with lead, and yet he turned out such beautiful music.
