Texans Don't Trust DeLay
December 6, 2005
Washington, DC - A new CNN/Gallup/USA Today poll shows that 52% of Texans in former Republican House Leader Tom DeLay's district have an unfavorable opinion of him, while 49% would vote for an unnamed Democratic candidate over the indicted Congressman. Furthermore, 55% of voters believe that the original charges against DeLay of conspiracy and money laundering are definitely or probably true.
"Instead of spending his time raising the special interest cash that got him in trouble in the first place, Tom DeLay should be paying attention to the concerns of his own constituents," said Democratic National Committee Spokesperson Amaya Smith.
"It's clear that Texans can't trust DeLay, and neither can America. America can do better than leaders who abuse their power and try to place themselves above the law. Republicans should join Democrats in working for an ethical government that believes the only special interests are those of the American people."
