Maybe Dick Cheney is getting too sick to function as VP anymore. So what if he resigns and Rummy is appointed to the position of VP? That would leave the SOD position open. Whether Joementum gets the job or not, I don't know, but then it would be open.

The reason I think that Rummy won't disappear into retirement is because he offered to resign when the torture photos were made public and Prezidunce Dumbass refused to take his resignation. So in the business as usual of this administration giving rewards for incompetence, I'm sure Rummy will get a promotion if Dick Cheney retires or dies.

It's not just that he is a DINO. It's a double win if Joe takes it. They get a Likud supporter in as SecDef, and
Gov Jodi Rell (R-unnaturally) gets to name a repuke to the Senate. Extra insurance against impeachment convictions,
