| Weird Question: Calif is liberal. DU is liberal. Why does CA have the DP? |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 08:46 PM by BigBearJohn
Assuming, of course, that most liberals are against the DP? (death penalty)
Don't hit me... just wondering.

California is not some wonderland of liberalism. A lot of the California-is-liberal stuff comes apropriately from the northern part of the state. There are excellent liberals in the southern part of California, to be sure. But politically, the place is pretty divided. The north is more blue, the south is more red, with pockets of both in each.

The coast is liberal. Most of the interior, besides one county that I can think of, votes Republican. Orange County, San Luis Obispo County, Ventura County, and San Diego are exceptions. I know those are in Southern and Central CA but the whole of Northern CA isn't a liberal wonderland either.

| 12. And the entire Central Valley. |
|
And everything northeast of San Francisco. Everything. The only oasis is Chico, and that's debatable.
You know how surprised the rest of the world was about *'s mishandling of Katrina? Well, California has more than its share of dirty little secrets... like the scumbags who burned new neighbors out of their home near Paradise, CA, 'cause didn't want to share their piece of the dungheap with no dang Nee-groes.
If it were up to me, we'd cut off everything east of Berkeley, build a high wall around Orange County, and live in peace. (Hey, we've got enough arable land of our own.)

The State of California has executed 11 people since 1976.
Kansas hasn't executed anybody in that time.

Are you saying California is not racist because it has a diverse ethnic population? That too would be a pretty strange comment.

| 17. It's a big state. Not as liberal as many assume, esp on State issues. |
|
And, on the State issues, Republicans routinely have a better voter turn out than Dems...
That's how we got Arnold as Gov.
There's light at the end of that tunnel though - the Governor's "Special Election" of propositions got soundly defeated this year and it was Dem Party turnout that made the difference.

|
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 04:23 AM by KingFlorez
A lot of people on both sides support the death penalty and alot of people on both sides oppose it. It's not really an ideological thing. Look at Kansas, ultra-conservative, but the death penalty was overturned
