When Smart People Stoop to Repuke Tactics.

It is really sad that some long-time DUers feel that it is necessary to start threads with titles that are meant to deceive.

Of course I'm not referring to people like MoPaul, who serves this board well with his irony and humorous words and pictures.

But, the others...is it a longing for attention? A way to capture a flaming high post count?

Ocassionally I have seen folks attack Will Pitt saying that he wants to be a "guru of DU," saying he only wants to post in order to get that "rush" of huge response numbers from his worshippers. Frankly, I admire WP because not only is he a great writer, but he actually gets the word OUT to the public via radio and in print. I respect him for his ACTIONS as well as his words.

While I can respect smart people who play "Devil's Advocate" and try to get us liberals to hone our debating skills and help us gain the upper hand in this sound-bite world, some DUers seem to be just plain bitter.

Apparently their axe to grind is with us, all of us. Who hasn't been in a pointless argument with certain DUers every time they encounter that person?

The repuke tactics I refer to are: omissions by intent, nit-picking, inflating mistakes, using the politics of personal destruction, making vast assumptions based upon one interview and using testimony of axe-grinders to paint a picture that is not quite accurate.

Yep, I can be a cynical DU poster, but I hate to see constant bitterness in anyone's posts; especially when they seem to think they are just "reporting the facts."

I think the view counts and ratings are useless indicators of anything. They might indicate that a poster looks at his/her own thread a hundred times, and that a freeper thinks it is terrible..thus bad rating.

It's very discouraging. There are a number of DUers who have fallen from my estimation permanently by some of their antics.

I actually can't stand it. It turns my stomach. It's bad enough we have to live with that from the other half of the political spectrum, but to encounter it here among "friends and allies" is almost too much to bear.

Two and one half years is a long time for anyone to hold back. There seems to be no other way to get the frustration out than posting it and hoping it doesn't turn too vitriolic.

11. I'm finding that "Ignore" is a handy function

for the very people to which you refer. Luckily, there aren't that many of them, they just have WAY too many personal issues that manifest themselves in "opposition" candidate threads over and over and over and over again. I mean, I don't mind a good debate but the same bullshit goober tactic gets old. If I wanted to read that shit I'd go to FreeRepublic.
