| Let me share a story with you all [please read] |
|
Hi everyone, My story may be unique but easily applicable to any situation. The other day I went to visit some friends in a dorm at my college. As I was talking to them one girl got a call from her mom. They're from Alaska so I grabbed the phone and told her to vote for Tony Knowles. She said she was already on board with him.
I then decided that I had 30 min to spare so I grabbed a stack of voter registration forms from my backpack and found every open door or door with a light on(it was midnight). Knocking on every door, I explained to the people that I was registering voters. I didn't mention any party or candidate, just that I was registering voters. I registered 10 new democrats, got one Repub to switch to D (well, she switched on her own after being disgusted with Dubya), and registered one repub.
It's so easy. Grab a stack from your local BOE and walk into a coffee shop. Announce that if anyone is interested in registering, you can help them out and that you will mail it for them. Go door to door throughout your neighborhood. Get your co-workers.
The only way we can win this election is if we registed thousands of new dems and get them to the polls!
I registered 12 new voters that night in 30 min. I challenge each of you to do the same within the week!
Anyone But Bush 2004! Yaron

| 4. i tried that but i got one Republican and one Green |
|
as well as a few Dems. That Republican jerk said he was voting just to cancel out my vote. I don't know what's wrong with the Green though, she didn't seem to like any of the candidates we have.

end of if I went around my neighborhood at midnight knocking on doors. :-) However, good for you, and I'm sure I could have some success during the day at a shopping center parking lots. I'll do it.

I did the same at the local grocery store earlier this fall. Set up a folding table, put out my voting registration forms, asked people if they wanted to register to vote.
It's easy.
Reading the thread titles in GD gives me the general impression that there are those here who might have a bit too much time on their hands. If they spent as much time registering voters and getting GOTV efforts started in their hometown, we'd be unstoppable.
Again, Epoch, bravo, and I will take your challenge!

| 10. I got your back in Mississippi |
|
and a huge stack of voter registration forms. Tomorrow some of the Dean people are meeting at a local coffee house to discuss strategies for voter regstration and future campaigning. I am going to talk to my friend's church next sunday and then some of her co-workers churches in the near future. We have a stack of forms on our Dean table and we are going to hit the Delta in the coming monthes.
Good for you! Keep up the good work!
