Who would you have chosen for Times Person of the Year?

I think the American Soldier is a good one, but if I had to choose one person to be "Man of the Year" I would say I would have selected Howard Dean. Why?

Yes, I support him. But it is more than this. He was dismissed earlier this year as someone without a snowball chance of winning the nomination. Then over time through force of personality, a strong message, and a great organization he emerged by years end as the front-runner for the Democratic nomination for president--revolutionizing politics while doing it.

His internet campaign has been one of the most effective in terms of garnering grass root support and record breaking contributions from relatively small contributors.

Well that is my choice. Who would you have liked as "Person of the Year"??

3. Whoever came up with the "morning after pill"

This is going to have a bigger impact than the birth control pill. Places where its used have already shown a marked decrease in abortions as the drug prevents fertilisation from taking place.

Arguments about morality have to sound empty and hollow in a society where sex is used to sell bread, cars and more sex. This gives women an 85% chance of preventing an unwanted pregnancy before it gets started and that has to be good for everyone, especially the anti-abortion people. There is no argument that an unfertilised egg is an unborn child.

COndoms are still de riguer since that pesky old killer AIDS is out there, but even condoms fail at times. If the abortion rate plummets maybe the more intense pro-life forces will lighten up and have a better attitude.

The Iraqi People. They seemed to be on the short end of the stick when it comes to our occupation of their country.

I like the idea of having the American Soldier as TMOTY. I am just ashamed that they have been put into a situation (by an AWOL chickenhawk) that they would deserve this distinction.

The American Soldier, like the Iraqi People are the victims of this illegal war.

Only a few soldiers particpated in the war and killed the innocent Iraqi soldiers? Did the others just cheer from the sidelines? All would be different if this was a just offensive war or a defensive war, but the oppossing forces truly had all the right to defend their homeland and were murdered for it.
